I went to check out my "new" 2000 Vette this morning and found a few problems which I need to get ironed out before I assume ownership. First being there was a little squeal to the motor when it starts up. I've heard things about bad belt tensioners or idler pulleys. Are they common? Easy to fix?
The main problem is the driver's side power seat doesn't work. All the lumbar supports move, but the 4-way power part of the seat doesn't. When I move the switch, I get nothing. It isn't even attempting to move. The passenger side works fine. Is there something common in these cars that I should look for? I need to make a move on the car very soon, so any help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.
The squeal is probably the belt tensioner. It is a warr. replacement item if still under warr or extended warr. Not a big item to Do it yourself either. As for the seat, it may just be the switch on side of seat, or if has memory there is a module that is under the seat that may be bad. I would either ask the seller to have GM fix or get price for one from dealer to take off selling price. It could just be a loose connection to module also. Check the codes on the DIC to see if any might give a lead also. Sent you some shop manual help via e-mail.
Have them check the wiring under the seat. I thought my seat module was bad, turns out that the wires that controlled fore and aft movement had broken at the connector. I fixed the two wires and everything is working fine again. If you're not getting front or rear up/down movement either, perhaps your module has failed.
i would simply tell the "owner" that i was very interested in the automoblie and i needed to have these things fixed immediately before i can go any further with the deal. the way things are tday, you can get what you are entitled to, so don't be afraid to ask. good luck and don't worry about this . :reddevil

Check fuse #4 and Circuit Breaker #35 in the passenger side footwell fuse panel. They power the drivers side motors, but the lumbar and passenger seat are powered from fuse #3.
Also check the connectors and wires under the drivers seat to make sure they weren't accidentally yanked out or cut.

Re: Power Seat Help--ASAP (TurboDave92)
Sounds like the belt tensioner for the squeal. As for the seat, could be the switch, motor, wiring, who knows. If you really want the car, have the owner fix these first. Not sure about this problem, but some seat repairs are expensive.
