Anybody install the jesel non-adjustable rockers on the C5? I got em but valve covers don't fit.
I saw a post before that stated that the spacers create other coil pack clearence problems?
I have the J2K adjustables and they would not fit. You can get a spacer from ARE or SAM racing. Extreme might even have them. I have not heard about any problems with the SAM spacer. That would be new to me.
I have custom valve covers, so I never needed a spacer.
1) You can get a valve cover spacer, but they're prone to leaks and require longer spark plug wires.
2) Buy the GM Perf Parts C5R covers. Better Option, but more pricey.
Are these the 700.00 shaft mount rockers? If so, I thought they were adjustable. thanks
Not the $700 ones. THe J2K are and they go for around $950. Jessel maes the adjustable and "SS" nonadjustable.
Extreme may be able to get you the valve covers I got a couple years ago. They are ALOT better than the Katech ones... alot lot lot better.
The stock valve covers can be modified to clear the non-adjustable Jesels by removing all of the internal oil baffling. To avoid a lot of oil getting into the LS1 PCV system, the LS6 PCV setup (vacuum being pulled from the valley cover rather than one of the valve covers) should be installed in conjunction with this mod.
I've just switched to Katech's new valve covers, so if you're interested in my modified originals, they're yours for a pittance.
Just buy the LS6 valley cover and associated hoses from your friendly Chevy dealer. The mod takes the valve covers out of the PCV system, making the stock baffling unecessary for control of oil ingestion. Some dental work is required on early blocks to clear the LS6 valley cover baffle, but this shouldn't be a problem for anyone with a degree in Dremel tool.
Someplace, there is an LS1 wbsite that gives you a step by step tutorial for this mod, complete with photos. I just can't remember the address, but I'm sure that another forum member will.
With stock ratio, I bet you would be lucky to get 3-5rwhp out of a set of these rockers. However, their lighter weight and excellent construction definitely improve the valvetrain as far as longevity and sound goes.
They aren't worth it unless you are running a pretty high lift cam IMO. The stock ones last quite awhile even with agressive cams!
If the YTs are shaft mounted, probably not. The shaft mount provides extra stability for high lift cams, especially under conditions of sustained high revs, as in road racing.
I think the Jessels are of higer quality. But that is just my opinion. IF you get the J2K (adjustable) and have bigger valves you will need a custom shaft mount from them. It needs to be a tiny bit taller.
I got the jesels for reliability with heavy springs and a bigger cam. I really want to keep it all under
the stock covers if possible. The cam is a .580 lift and removing the baffles may work. I think I'll bolt the covers on the heads with the rockers and valves installed with no springs and measure how much
lift there is available without the baffles. Hopefully there will be enough. Then I will do the Z06 PCV trick mentioned above. Hopefully I can find it using the search feature.
Oh I almost forgot on my Jessel J2K's I also had to slighlty clearance the head on the exhaust side railing. I have LQ9 heads which really should not matter, but still needed to be clearanced for the adj. rockers.
