Default Cleaning Throttle Body???

I took off my air bridge yesterday and my throttle body is dark and gummy. I didn't think this would happen, since the injectors are on the intake. I'd like to clean it but need to know how to do it. Can I just take off the bridge and use spray carb cleaner? If I put injector cleaner in the gas tank, it won't clean the throttle body. How did the TB get gummy? (It's not excessive, just 100K miles worth, I think)

Mine was that way also. I was at the dealer for an unrelated problem and had them clean it while it was off.

Not sure how they cleaned it. Sorry.

I use electical contact cleaner spray, on the MAF wires and the TB, when I clean my filter.
Dirt? Probably some from the VRam filter oil and some from other cars exhausts?

Fuel and oil "fumes" plus air flow = intake dirt. Most car part stores like Autozone and Pep Boys carry INTAKE CLEANER. I emphasized that because not all cleaners are friendly to your Vette's system. Cheap and good stuff that will last a long time. :yesnod: :)

I clean mine periodically with throttle body spray cleaner type product. I spray it on a rag first then, using the plastic handle of a screwdriver to hold the throttle blade open, reach inside (top and bottom of blade) and clean as far as my finger will allow me to reach inside. Anytime I move the throttle blade I only move it slowly and always with my fingers, never anything metal.

Use Throttle Body Cleaner and spray the blade and throat as far down as you can. You can use a soft cloth to get the residue out if you need to. If its really bad you could have somebody assist you at the accelerator to maintain a high idle while you spray the throat. Don't forget to clean the MAF also. After you take the MAF apart, you can use the Throttle Body cleaner on the screen, but not the sensors. Use either electrical contact cleaner (spray) or alchohol and q-tips very gently to clean the sensors. Put everything back together and you'll be a happy man.
