Re: Is there a TSB about rear diff leak? (edmaverik)
My understanding from another post on the forum, is that they came up with a new design seal p/n 88996703 & 89047953. Also I am encouraging people to write a complaint to:
Mr. G. Richard Wagner Jr.
GM Chairman & CEO
General Motors Corporation
300-T Renaissance Center
Detroit, MI 48265
They should repair at their cost all differential leaks caused by this known defect for cars in and out of warranty for at least a period of 5 years. :boxing
Re: Is there a TSB about rear diff leak? (edmaverik)
Thanks everyone! I went to my local Chevy dealership service center and they are fixing my left transaxle due to a faulty seal under warranty. I will be vette-less until Thursday morning! :yesnod:
My baby is in good hands and will be parked inside the dealer's service garage for the next couple of nights though.
Re: Is there a TSB about rear diff leak? (edmaverik)
I don't think the GM legal dept. will allow a TSB (there have been so many cars with this problem that it could open Pandora's differential), but as noted above, there are new seals available. :yesnod: :)
Re: Is there a TSB about rear diff leak? (bellomo)
I'm all for it. I have talked to Marisa from Mr Wagners office several times but to no avail. Seems they just don't care. If they do agree to the fix just make sure they don't use the old hammer fix. Thats what thet recommended on the panel behind the seat that pops or as they call it. The oil-canning effect. I have the same leak with only 2600 miles. will take it to dealer soon though.
Had my left cover PN 12458145 replaced 3 times now at 12851, 28764, 31181 miles not counting two "tightenings" to stop a little drip. The first two were anoying drips the last a MAJOR leak sending fluid all over the back of the car. Since the car was cleaned for show over the weekend - it was a catastropic leak occuring on the 100 mile ride home. Its fixed now - all under warranty but the service manager wants to "check it" with me during the next oil change - hope it lasts that long - keep everyone posted.
