Just curious, is the oil problem only happening with a minority of the '01s out there? I haven't noticed it on mine, but then again I don't have very many miles. Could this problem be waiting for me around the corner?
It seems either you are going to have a problem or you will not. I have read other posting on this subject in the past. Some do, some don't. I have had my '01 for about eighteen months, does not use oil. Good luck. :seeya
I needed to add my first quart of oil at 260 miles. I was using a quart every 1600 miles and after much debate, reringed it. Haven't had problems since. You won't develope the problem if it has not happened yet.
Automatics are less prone to burn oil since they are typically not driven in high RPM/ low load conditions. Some manual drivers just keep it in a lower gear in traffic and create the situation above.
You should be fine if you are not burning oil now.
I was consistently losing oil in my stock motor ALL the time. Now even with my 382 stroker I still use a little more than I would like...BUT ...with Royal Purple in my last oil change...so far ..NO LOSS..
Mine used a quart in 1900 miles, I had it re-ringed at 13k, and it hasn't used a drop since. I didn't lose performance, times and dyno are in my sig

Royal purple is a brand of motor oil. It's good stuff, but expensive from what I hear. As for some having the problem and some not.... I think it's :bs . It's all about how you drive them. They all have the same low tension rings. The harder you drive them and the more high rpm/lowload usage the more ring flutter. Also, it can just pop up if you change how you drive the car.
Mine's burnt 5 quarts in 6300 miles. The previous owner put 11.9k on the car and babied it. He didnt' have any problems with it. Then I got it and I drive the car pretty hard and like to match rev/downshift comming to stops now it likes to burn some oil. I'm going to get the consumption test done to see what happens

Re: 2001 Oil consumption Q (dads01dream)
Most of the oil consumption problems are with the '01s but I had it with my '00. They supposedly fixed it in '02 with redesigned rings. Just keep an eye on it - however, you may not have much warranty left to determine whether it is using oil or not. May want to drive it a bit more. :steering:
