im getting some non-runflats put on today. The Kuhmo MX ecsta...Goodyear is installing them, but says that using non-runflats will make my car ride like s**t. is this true? Seems like most people on here love getting of the run-flats.
LOL... the ride will actually be better than with the runflats. Just make sure you keep as close to the stock size diameter difference between front and rear as you can.
:lolg: :lolg: :lolg: OMG, the guy at the dealer must be a moron! Regular tires are a big improvement over runflats! You'll enjoy them much more. :auto: Just make sure they pump the tires up to 45psi in order to "proove" themselves right.
Pay no attention. Your ride quality will improve with non-runflats. Be warned, if you have base suspension it will feel almost TOO soft due to softer sidewalls IMHO.
Well, someone beat me to it, but I concur. The guy that told you that the ride would be worse is a MORON. Your ride quality will improve tremendous. The run-flats ride is harsher because of the zero-flex sidewalls they have.
no joke...it was done by an authorized goodyear dealer.
So you are saying you have a C5 that has something on the door jamb suggesting 42 lbs as a correct inflation point?? I'd love to see a picture of that
If I change to non rf's, does the tire pressure sensors still work? Besides being s-o-l in the case of a flat, any suggestions on "spares" (ie: the "tire-in-a-can" approach)?

Sure, tire sensors still work, but not after you shoot "tire-in-a-can" into the tire  I carry a tire plugging kit, small jack, lug wrench, etc. with me just in case.
If you got the tires changed today you have found by this time 1. The non flats ride MUCH better 2. Your vette is so quiet you have to be careful when you pass gas with a passenger in the car 3. Your tire dealer is full of bs. :lolg:
they put 42psi in their after basing that on the door jam...i think it needs to be lowered some more
Just the fact that they overinflated your tires by 10-12 pounds proves they're morons. Either that or they did it on purpose so you'll wear the centers of the treads much quicker and you'll come back and buy overpriced Goodyears!
You'll love the Kuhmos. Just got a set put on last weekend. I had the Goodyear runcraps. WORLD of difference!! Both in ride quality and grip. With the runcraps, I could nail it at 40 and my rear would be all over the place (no traction). Although it was fun and a very impressive view for someone behind you, it doesn't help much if you're concerned with drag times. With these Kuhmos when I nail it, I get a nice half second chirp, then they grab and go! As for your dealer :bs :bs :bs
I ordered a set of Kuhmo tires for the
rear of my '01 after 16K Mi. on OEM run flats.
Good price thru Tire Rack. Both dealer and
Tire Rack said they would not feel right with
the Goodyears on the front. The sizes are correct
and they run and feel fine, actually a little better.
I noticed they were quiter. Will order for the front
in acouple of thousand Mi. :yesnod: 33psi
jm
I'm running stock size Portenza S03s. The ride is much softer than the EMT (ran thru 3 sets in 65000 miles). I find I need about 2-3 more psi in the fronts than rears to get the little bit of push out of it. 32/30 is nice. Handling is better than F1s IMO. Traction at the strip quite good also.
I check pressures on the way to the highway every day just to be sure. If I get a flat, I call the rollback. :)

Who cares if you ruin a tire sensor? You can replace them for around $50 now and I'd rather spend an extra $50 and be on my way in minutes rather than risk getting run over screwing around jacking up my car, removing the tire, and all the rest of it on the side of the road. If you could pick the spot you were going to get a flat at this might be practical, but there are more impractical and/or unsafe locations than otherwise. This idea is a much more difficult and dangerous job in reality than you might imagine and I investigated more than my share of pedestrian fatal accidents during my career involving people whose vehicle's were disabled.
I carry a Prestone Inflate It! kit in my car and hope I never need to use it. :D
