Sounds strange I know.. I have an exhaust I need to get installed on my '99 FRC. I checked with the local muffler shop and they want $80 to put it on. I NEVER let anyone work on the car so I'm looking for alternatives. There is a loading dock nearby that I could back the car onto...and leave everything behind the rear tires about 5 foot off the ground. Would this give me adequate clearance or do you need ground clearance in front of the rear wheels as well? Thoughts?
Re: Changing cat-back on a loading dock? (C5Rookie)
I felt the same way about letting someone else work on mine, but I did take mine to a muffler shop. They let me stand there with them and guide them through the process though, and it was so easy it was done in no time. I had a smart spell the day I took it in (which is unusual), and took along a torque wrench and sockets. They were just going to air-rachet the sway bar bolts/nuts back in to that nice soft aluminum member and I said - "Hey guys -no way!" They were good about it and let me torque it back together myself.

was gonna do the loadin dock thing but I went & got a set of rhino ramps& jacked up the back w/safety stands, very easy some guys here make it sound more difficult than it really is,I measured 32" from bottom of bumper to ground needed to remove the stocck system, btw my driveway is on a slant, just put an x-pipe on a couple of days ago.

No one said it can't be done and certainly several here have done it. Personally I'd rather use a lift or some other more convenient means of suspending 3200 lbs. over my head as I yank stuf out from under it. It all comes down to safety and whether one has the means and skills to do it right. Our own kewlbrz (Shawn) has done it as pictured below.

Re: Changing cat-back on a loading dock? (C5Rookie)
As long as you have enough room to swing the stock exhaust down and maneuver it around, this should be fine. The change out is not hard, you just have to have the clearance.
Re: Changing cat-back on a loading dock? (C5Rookie)
Sounds like a great idea to me. I never thought of the loading dock idea. That should give you more than enough space to remove the stock system in one piece. Are you installing an x-pipe? As stated above, overall it is a pretty basic installation as long as the new system you are installing was manufactured properly. :smash:
