Default C5 performance tips

I have just bought my first C5. I had a 1995 C4 that I did quite a few modifications to. This was a 300 hp car that seems like was a lot faster than my C5. I did the exhaust and MAF first. Then I did the air filter. A complete MSD ignition and 1.7 Crane gold series rollers. The 1st and only time I took the car to the track it ran 12.92 @ 121 mph. It was a 6 speed as well is my new one but i know it will not run 12's. I was hoping that someone could get me off on the right foot. I dont want to get into the block at all. I would rather spend a ton on a supercharger before I did that.

I previously owned a 90 C-4, totally stock. It indeed was faster than my C-5
was stock, but only to a certain point. If I was just cruising at a low RPM in 4th or 5th and wanted to accelerate, the C-4 was faster up to about 4,000 RPM, but once past that point the C-4 flattened out. The C-5 pulls much harder at a higher RPM and would totally smoke the C-4 as long as you keep the revs up. The C-4 had better torque down low and the C-5 has much better high RPM HPs. I think the twin throttle body and shorter intake runners
of the C-4 had more airflow velocity and made better torque. The larger throttle body and long intake runners fo the C-5 have more flow, but less
air velocity, which is better for higher RPMs...I could be wrong and maybe some of the engine builders can chime in on this?

The C4 I had, had a few miles on it so I really wasnt worried about hurting it. But this one kinda scares me. I spent a long time searching for a black 6 speed with low miles. I trailored this car 13 hrs. So it is like my pride and joy. It just doesnt have that snap like I thought it would. I need to know where to begin with the mods and what would be the least harmful to my wallet.

get a blackwing or some sort of intake first, then an exhaust. Headers are awesome on these cars. Next go with a LS6 intake and get a bigger MAF sensor and get LS1 tune.

If you want that immediate, snap-your-head-back kind of mod, try swapping out the rear gears to a 3.90 or 4.10.

:iagree: And in pretty much the same order. Conduct some searches on the intakes and exhaust as these have been debated a million times here. Then pick the ones YOU like the best.Once you have the basics (intake and exhaust componants) get the car dyno tuned w/ ls1edit at a REPUTABLE shop. The tune should make a big difference.
Good luck and congratulations.

They should sell the Vararam/4.10 combo as the DEFACTO Kick in the butt mod.

The Vararam Intake coupled with a 4.10 rear will make you think you have a 2003 Z06!

The 1st and only time I took the car to the track it ran 12.92 @ 121 mph.
If your trap speed is 121 and you only posted a 12.9 then your spinning the tires hard off the line, I'm willing to bet your 60' time is probably well over 2 seconds, get this 60' time down and you'll be high 11's
