Default Too many miles?

I bought my c5 3 months ago and want to do some serious performance upgrades. I'm not sure wether I want heads/cam or supercharger but something like that. The problem I'm having is that the car has 65,000 miles on it. Is that too many miles for these types of upgrades? Will a cylinder pressure test tell me everything I need to know about the condition of the engine or will it only give a partial answer? Which upgrade will be "nicer" to an engine with higher miles. Would anyone who has done a serious upgrade on a high mileage engine please at least chime in? Thanks.

65k isn't that much really in terms of engine life....it's more , what kind of miles were they? highway or drag racing miles...

if you're worries about the miles on your engine have you thought about a stroker kit? new heads, cam, valvetrain, crank, rods, and pistons....you should have your mechanic check the cylinder walls for excess wear and the bearings to see if you have any potential issues, but it's probably a better way to go. you can get stroker kits with lower compression if you think you will add a s/c later. my opinion.

you can certainly do a s/c, but in the long run you will probably have to end up forging the bottom end anyways...build the foundation before the house....

I've thought about a stroker kit but they seem really expensive. From what I've seen, $15,000 is the minimum if you have someone else do it. It also seems that parts alone and doing the work yourself isn't that much cheaper. I guess the reason it's so expensive is that you get cought by the "while you're there" syndrom.

Anyone else out there with higher mileage stock bottom ends?

heres a price breakdown (estimated on what you can get)

383/382 lunati stroker kit $3200
ported heads 2.06 / 1.58 $2300
pushrods $ 100
cam - $350
mod high flow oil pump $100-200

so you're looking at around $6k - 6.5k for parts, plus about $4k - 6k for labor, gaskets, tuning....depending where you go....

alot of vendors have stroker packages which i think are a little pricey, but it saves time and effort and is just easier to do...however if you get everything yourself and find a good mechanice with EXPERIENCE working on corvettes and TUNING them, you should be able to save a couple grand....
