Since people like me have a bad BCM because of a steering column lock failure, and some people having the "pull key, wait ten seconds" even after the CLB is installed, is there anyway to have the BCM programmed without the column lock feature in it? I know the CAGS can be removed that way, but what about this?
I remember reading in one of the forum post that it can not be turned off. If it could we wouldnt need the column lock bypass. I do not think that the BCM functions are changeable but I could be wrong. Most of the changes come from functions that the PCM controls.
Since Automatics no longer have a column lock, what do they do? Do they come from the factory with a "bypass", or is the feature turned off in the computer(s)?
Good question jmX, one I would like to know answer to myself. I wish someone would make an after market BCM, one that could be programmed with a laptop. Then the dealers wouldn't be able to rob us Vette owners anymore than they already have.

That is an interesting question :yesnod: Only options can be turned off in the BCM,the column lock function can not be turned off.I always argued that GM should have came out with a new BCM without the column lock circuitry in it for the 1997-2000 C5 A4,and that would have eliminated all the column lock issues (A4 only)...Of course, this would have cost them ALOT more money compared to the recall fix.
FYI,even though the 2001 A4 no longer has a column lock in the steering column, the wiring for the column lock is still in the vehicle :smash: So yes,the circuitry is no longer in the 2001 A4 BCM.
CAGS is turned off in the PCM (not BCM) with custom programming. The BCM is basicly a big relay box,and does not have the capabilities of the PCM such as custom programming...
