Default HallTech TRAP Question

Hey all -

fellow forum member is going to have his TRAP for sale soon. However, he's got an '01, and I have a '97. Is it a small and/or easy change, or interchange to modify whatever the different piece is between '91-00 and '01+?

I assume the difference is in the size of the MAS, correct? would the different 'MAF ends' be enough to make it compatible?

Thanks guys,

-Jake

Jake,
There are two differences.
For your earlier year C5 the "F" seal that goes to the MAF is slightly smaller in diameter, and the IAT sensor requires a hole in the duct.
You can get the pre-01 "F" seal and you will need to drill a hole into the duct that goes over the radiator.
That part is a pretty easy conversion.
The other snag that you will encounter is that the "Supplemental Restraint Airbag sensor is mounted under the bumper right where the Air Filter on the TRAP goes. You will need to relocate this. This part we will not do at our shop due to liability issues, but have customers that have made the mod quite easily. Of course they haven't wrecked there car yet so we don't know if the relocation of the sensor effects the airbag system.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have a picture of the "F" seals you're talking about? Is this different from the larger "MAF ends" that folks sell?

Sounds like getting it to fit up shouldn't be much trouble.

Thanks!

The 01 cars have an 85mm MAF while the 97-00 have a 75mm. I switched from a 75 to 85 and was able to stretch the stock coupler over the new maf so the difference isn't that great ~0.39" difference in diameter.

The "F" seal is the "rubber coupling that connects the MAF end to the duct. It is not the same thing as the MAF ends that you see for sale. If is a stock GM part. You can probably use the one off of your stock duct if you can get it off without damage.

As the older MAF is smaller in diameter that the new one, you might be able to get away with wraping the end of your MAF with a high quality electrician's tape to get the diameter up to that of the new MAF and then put 'em together and tighten the clamp.
Then all you need to deal with is drilling the hole.
