Re: vararam air induction system (larjantheyellowman)
I have the Vara-ram Widemouth intake. This is just the air box. It does not have the ducts that go to the fog lights. I am very pleased with this system. I did some before and after dyno's on the intake. Check out this post http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=615791
I went from a tie-down k&n filter w/no air lid/cover to the vararam, & feel it has exceeded my expectations especially at high speeds. I will be visiting my local trac very soon to hopefully substantiate my SOTP impression.
Re: vararam air induction system (larjantheyellowman)
I'm not the originator. This is an add-on to the original post/question.
I too am considering a VaraRam. I've heard from some that there are "issues" with the system ingesting water during heavy rain conditions because of the position of the intakes on the bumper. (My 'Vette is a daily driver.) Any comments from anyone? Thanks in advance for the feedback. :steering:
I have tried almost every intake setup, & i feel the vararam is the best. Gained almost 2 tenths in the 1/8 mi. The new vararam has the quick release T-handles and an improved filter. Just watch out for deep puddles in heavy rain. SCOTT
Re: vararam air induction system (larjantheyellowman)
I'll be installing mine tomorrow night. Got it from Richard at exit28motorsports who did an excellent job of calling me and discussing the issues and shipping it out pronto. I've heard a lot of "warnings" about the water but Richard and everyone else that has one commented that there hasn't been any problem with water. The key is that the intake is now so low you don't want to dip the front end in deep water. We'll see....I get lots of rain and sittinng water here in TX.

We hear this constantly, but has anyone actually ever experienced this without submerging the front end? You'd think someone would have posted a negative experience by now. I love my Vararam. The only issue I had was the foam filter that came with it started falling apart, so I had them replace it with K&N.
Just bought the vararam system. I agree on the filter it came with. I do not trust it on my 2003 vette. Please can anybody tell me where I can get a K&N. I looked everywhere. Thank you so much
My car is also a daily driver and I have not had any problems with water ingestion. My only dissatisfaction was with the quality. But, I am probably more **** about stuff than most. I just feel if your going to shell out $400 for an intake if better not look like someone made in the garage. Anyway, if will make your breath better in the end. And I am sure you willbe happy in the end.

I want the Vararam in the worst way. You look at the design and the positive gains and ask yourself why wouldn't it work? But I am deathly afraid of hydrolocking my engine. Which of course can happen with a variety of other bottom feeders but going thoough standing water on the interstate, water which you cannot tell the depth of is a scary thought. Or worse, having someone in another nearby car splash enough of a wave into you.
Wish they had a way to close off the bottom feeding at will and have the car breath underhood air when needed.
Re: vararam air induction system (larjantheyellowman)
Installed mine myself wasn't hard . Noticed difference right away and my stock air cleaner was brand new . I have a friend who got his first who noticed a huge difference but he said his stock filter was really dirty so i wanted to see what i noticed with new stock filter vs vararam vr1b. I to am very satisfied second best mod so far . 3.90's in my z still on top.
