Thanks to western Missouri's wonderful fuel ratings, 92 octane is the highest pump gas I can get. Now if I'm running the Patriot Stage 2 LQ9 (ls6 style) heads, am I going to see any problems with 92 octane? Or should I just tune it and drive the hell out of it?
A number of other variables influence detonation (weather, cam timing, etc.), but I'm running 11.1:1 without audible detonation on 93 octane. One little ole octane number shouldn't make much of a difference.
As mentioned, there are a few factors that will influence detonation, but tuning will be a big factor. I ran 11.1:1 compression ratio with my heads/cam setup and 92 octane pump gas with no problems. When the heat of the summer rolls around, I will normally pull a few more degrees of timing out.
Let us know if you have any questions on the Patriot stage II LS6 cylinder heads. We've been selling them like crazy!

What cam are you running as LSA is one of the biggest variables. If you have a big cam with a 112 or lower LSA you could probably get away with big 11's with no issue. I run 11.6:1 on 93 with no issues and i know of some tuners having seen over 12:1 on 93. The compression ration is related to 2 variables, static and dynamic compression. One more thing, the ls1/6 pcm's adjust automatically for hot weather tuning.
I'm running the patriot LS6 style heads with the 59cc chambers and I haven't had any trouble at all running 93 in it. I've autotapped the car and it isn't getting any KR.
Actually it is an awesome cam....yes not the biggest but it is a great street cam that makes a lot of power for its size. Lots of guys have gotten over 420rwhp with bolt-ons with it. I would bet you could run 11.5:1 on 92 with that cam.
If yours is a baby cam then my cam must be premature :D Here in California there are many C5's running around with a similar 224 cam and 11:1 compression on 91 octane with no problem.
Yeah, I know baby cam :steering: If yours is a baby cam then my cam must be premature :D Here in California there are many C5's running around with a similar 224 cam and 11:1 compression on 91 octane with no problem.
Well originally I wanted to do a 230/236 .575/.575 110, but I'm going to be happy with what I've got. :yesnod:
