Default Which Plug Wires for Headers?

What's the best plug wire set to resist the heat from headers?

I run Taylor 10.4mm Thundervolt wires with Taylor 1200 deg. F Fire
Sleeves. I had mMagnecors at first but their boot is exactly like stock and a few were touching the primaries. That's the main reason I switched to the Taylors - their boot is smaller and shaped differently and easily clears the primaries.

I like the Accel Extreme 9000s with integrated heat shields for use with headers. :yesnod:

Yes, the brand DOES make a difference. Some wires have longer & wider shields on the plug end which can touch the headers. I run the Taylor Spiro-Pro 8.5mm and they have the smaller tear-drop style ends that don't touch my headers at all, even on the dreaded #7 cylinder. There is no need to use heat socks with these wires either.

The cool socks are really a great way to go. Sometimes they are'nt long enough to shield the wire up high enough...If that's the case, Aeroquip makes a silicon/nomex heat shield tube in various sizes...it's silver in color and has a fuzzy nomex lining... -10 or -12 outa be about right for a spark plug wire and boot. You can lay these right on the header without much consequence... sj

I actually had one of my Taylors touch my headers and melt through. I switched to the MSD wires. Nice thing about the MSD's is there boots bend. So you can keep them away from the headers. :yesnod:

I am running stock wires with cool sox. So far they've been fine for a year.

I'm convinced there is no such set of plug wires. I have gone through 3 sets of Taylor 10.5 mm and now on a set of MSG 10.5 mm and none of them will work on #7 AND on this set of MSG's I have a set of 2400 deg fiberglass boots with a 1200 deg. sleeve on top of it!! I give up!! Oh, my headers are those crappy LG headers!! I also failed to mention mine is heads , cam and supercharged!

I have GMPP wires with stock heat shields and TSP 1 3/4" long tubes, the older coated mild steel ones. Zero issues.

Sure I'll jump into a nearly 17 year old necrothread lol. My Duralast Golds are still kicking fine nearly 5 years and 50k later with Kooks 1 7/8 LTs...
