Default Bought a Dremel Tool, porting TB this weekend.

I think I remember seeing somewhere a description of how to port a throttle body. Also, I would need a short procedure on removing the TB, (fuel system pressure issues, etc.). Lastly, what are the torque levels for re-installing. Any help greatly appreciated.

Honestly, I would take it back and get a Die-grinder from Sears. The dremel is not going to be heavy enough to port the throttle body. An electric die grinder will have many uses.

Don't know the answers to your questions, but good luck in the porting.

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep the dremel, I can always use it elsewhere and it was cheaper than my VaraRam velocity stack. I got a die grinder today and you're right. I also bought a couple of wire brush wheels for it. There is a lot of aluminum in that car that could use some shining up. I know I'm crazy, but it's like therapy. I'm still trying to find that article... :lurk:

Phil, trust me.. a Dremel with a 60 grit sanding drum will turn an Aluminum TB into dust in no time..

It's more than enough..However.. A die grinder also make a nice addition...;)
Get both..

Its nice to see that some people still do there own mods when possable . I know alot of guys who just drop there car off at there local corvette performance shop with a credit card number and a list of things they want done. Then they brag about how fast "there" car is. To me anyone can buy a fast car and pay someone to work on it, but the only ones that have any bragging rights are the people that do all the work and mods on there car that they can. You cant wait to fire it up and see the changes you made. True rodder. good luck it takes awhile but its all you.

:iagree: I was at "Corvettes at Carlisle" this year and I was checking out some of the cars that were waiting to have exhausts installed at the BPP tent. I asked one of the guys what model exhaust he had chosen and he said he didn't know what model it was. He just gave them his keys and his credit card and told them to put one on. His buddy was standing next to him and told me the same thing. They had no idea what type of cat-back they were getting  Sheesh :banghead:

Some people just don't have the time to wrench anymore. As far as bragging rights go...... I could care less that you would look down upon me because my tuner installed my gears, H/C, tranny or whatever.

Oh BTW, I ran a 10.97 last week and nobody asked if I did the installs myself. I did get a ton congrats and Holy S---. that car is fast.

I thought about polishing and enlearging my throttle body also.I haven't done it because I don't know how much material to remove.I DO know you have to be very careful you don't go beyond the butterfly ,as than the problems begin.does any one have the specs for enlarging and polishing the throttle body?I would appreciate the spec if anyone has them available. :chevy :chevy :flag :chevy :chevy

I'm just doing my throttle body because I don't want to pay $395 to have someone else do it. I also LIKE to work on my car. I'm putting in a set of headers next weekend. However, in the spring I'm going to Cartek for a H/C package. (Dirty Harry - "A man's got to know his limits"). At the same time I'll have them do a clutch, and some driveline beefs. I don't have much time to do thos stuff either, but what I choose to do, I do because it's fun. Maybe someday my car will do 10's too. And when it does, I can say, yeah, I do most of my own work. :D

:bs I like working on "my" car too, but I didn't mine the ore, smelt the steel, and assemble the whole car in my driveway. Does that mean it's not mine? Or is it only YOUR work that makes your car yours? Everybody has different levels of skill and abilities in different fields, and assigning some kind of deficiency or lack of 'bragging rights' to someone just because they paid somebody else to do some of the work on their cars is just :bs

I've been using a Roto-zip with a 1/4" collet and carbide bits, @ 30K RPMS. Is anyone aware of an electric tool Dremal, rotozip, diegrinder etc... That will allow for a 1/4" collet AND IS Variously adjustable like a pnuematic die grinder?

Why all the lost love over me porting my throttle body? Squeezin Bi was just giving me a pat on the back for taking some initiative. Bottom line. MY car, My time, My money, free country, If I want to mod my car myself, if I want to pay somebody else to do it, It's apples and oranges. I'm not an expert with these cars by any means, yet. But I learn fast, and I'm having fun doing it. I started working on cars in 1969, when someone gave me a '57 Fairlane with a 352 BB and Holley 620 4bbl. It hardly ran, I was 17 with no money, so I had no choice but to work on it to make it run. I got out of cars for 35 yrs until I bought my Vette. To me, the greatest thing about a Vette is you cand work on it fairly easily and get great results for your work. That's enough of me pontificating, back to polish, polish, polish :D

I was'nt attacking people who take there cars to the shop. If you read the first sentence of my statement "when possable" appears at the end. I had my gears done at a shop and i could have done them myself, i didnt want the down time and wanted some sort of warranty. I was giving props to the people who do what they can with there available time and money. Now if your like that guy who does'nt even know what hes putting in the car , i got a bunch of speed parts to sell him. If i heard them say that , they would have left there with their heads down. If i owned a vette shop as long as business was good i would'nt touch there cars . They probably thought they would get laid with a corvette and since they havent yet think exhaust might help attract attention. I spend a crap load of time on this site asking questions and deciding what mods to do. If i have it installed by a shop i've at least shopped and compaired products, that sometimes takes more time than the job. The way you defended yourself when there was'nt even an issue directed twards you i would guess you have a guilty conscience. Open your heart spend some time with your car , quality time you wont regret it. PEACE OUT.
