HELP!!! Major Problem....
I have a '98 A4 with 3.42 gears and SY3500. Tonight while cruising I began to notice some odd and troublesome behavior.
Driving no more than 40mph, I notice that my rpms climb higher than usual. I'm always under 2k rpm under 40 mph, but tonight my rpms keep climbing to 3200+ before it feels like the A4 switches gears. Feels like the rear tires are being held up, and finally break loose.....only to have the same conditions reoccure when I step on the pedal.
No codes on the DIC. I check under the car and I have no leaks.
The only thing out of the ordinary was that I was using EFILive and recording the data while I drove. Even though it's bi-directional, I don't think it can make changes to the PCM and all I did was start the record and toggle between the graphs and charts.
Shut down EFI and turned off car and waited a couple minutes then went back out and still have the same problems.
Any ideas?
I'm thinking it's either the TC, gears, or transmission. My A4 was rebuilt/beefed up in January by Speed Demon so it shouldn't be the cause

Sounds like your tranny is not shifting into 3rd and 4th gear. Could be a tranny problem (loosing 3rd and 4th gear) or something to do with your programing.

Yeah, I think it may be the tranny afterall. Looks like I'll be going back to Speed Demon. Oh well, I suppose while it's under the knife now would be a good time to swap out the SY3500 for a SS3600 or SS3800. :reddevil

I just went back out. No codes, no fluid leaks.
Looks like it's the 2-3 shift. RPM's will climb past 3200 and the rear tires feel like they're being held in place (loss of power felt) and then I hear a small thump and feel a "kick" and tires feel free and rpm's lower, but of course it climbs back up and repeats when I'm on the throttle.
If I nail it and get past the 2-3 shift it seems to be ok at higher speeds. Dayum.....guess after going to LGM I'm simply putting down more than my rebuilt transmission can handle.... :reddevil
Thinking that since I'll have to go under the knife, might as well upgrade to the SS3600. Then again, I'm thinking maybe I should go with 3.73 gears and SS3800.
I know Vince has the 3.73 and SS3800 and raves about it! Anyone running the 3.42 and SS3600 setup???
