How do I pass the state smog test?

I have a 427C5R engine with a very moderate cam(nice smooth idle at 850rpm), headers, stock cats and Corsa exhaust.

They measure:

At idle:
CO, max allowed value 0.5 -> my car was 2.5
HC, max allowed value 100 -> my car was 957

At 2500rpm:
CO, max allowed value 0.3 -> my car was 0.7

CO is Carbon Oxide and the HC measures the amount of unburnt fuel/oil exiting the exhaust pipe.

Do I have bad cats? bad tuning?

Could I add something to the fuel to make it possible to pass emissions?

go to pep boys and get a bottle of G2P, or guaranteed to pass, it is an additive to help reduce the CO and HC read outs, and they will guarantee you to pass or money back plus emissions costs or something. I think you have to dump it in a full tank of gas, then take it to get inspected. by the way, try running your car for about a half hour before you get put on the sniffer, your car will run cleaner when it is warmed up

btw, that is a bad butt engine :yesnod: , what is LSA on your cam?

:iagree: Also, you can loosen the manifold bolts a little so there is a small leak that is barely noticeable to the ear. I've had to do both of these to get my camaro to pass.

YOu could choose to live in a state where most places are not subject to smog testing......

HOLY COW! My carburated ZZ3 engine in my 68 put out only 70 ppm of HC. You are in the gross polluter territory! I'll bet your air/fuel ratio is way off. I'd take it to a tuner who can measure HCs and get them down where they belong.
