I'm trying to remove the lense from the body of the tail lamp. The two screws just hold the lamp to the car. I'm working on a LED project but the lense seems like it doesn't want to come off easily. I may have to take out the dremel and cut it off :skep:

Maybe with a small cutting wheel attached to a Dremel Moto-Tool, or something similar. That's about the only way I can think of since they are sonically welded onto the rear reflector portion. Don't try to seperate them. Cracking plastic will result. Then you'd need to come up with a way to re-attach the lens. Hot melt glue gun? Silicone?
I wish they weren't attached to the housing. I have considered putting some sort of graphic on the inside of the lens, etc. myself, but gave up when I saw how they're made.

I think I will try one with a dremel and cutting disk. I was thinking of some kind of superglue and maybe some silicon to stop any water leakage.

The difficult part will be keeping the edges straight so that when you go to re-attach the lens you have a consistently flat surface for the glue. I'm thinking you might consider using a hot melt glue gun, using one of the waterproof glue sticks that I'm pretty sure are available now.
Good luck,
Robert :)

Hot melt glue is not recommended! The summer heat will get it hot enough that it may seperate or start to leak. I would recommend a good two part plastic epoxy. Wal-mart sells a great plastic epoxy that melts the two surfaces and bonds them together. It smells bad when its bonding but once it sets up, it WILL NOT come back apart. I bought some "super glue" like stuff at Carslie this summer. It is INDUSTRIAL stuff that makes "super glue" look like elmers glue :D The stuff is fantastic!
It works VERY WELL!
If your interested in it please e-mail me and I will give you the info on where you can get it. bill327@msn.com
For cutting the lenses with a dremmel, use the thin ceramic disc at a medium to high speed! Cut slow and evenly! If you cut too fast it will melt the plastic rather than cut it and the disc will clog, bind and break. Hold the lense in some sort of a fixture so that it will not move while you cut.
Should work great. I cut through 1/4" plexyglass and it worked fine. The secret is to keep the plastic tailings in a dust form and not letting them got so hot as to melt together and bind the cutting disc.
