Default Tire Pressure Sensor Compatability

I just recently purchased a 2000 model replacing my 1997. I had chrome Z06 wheels using the original pressure sensors. When I got the 2000, I swapped wheels and tires. Now the pressure sensors are not recognized. Will all I have to do is recalibrate the pressure sensors or are there compatability issues with using 1997 sensors on a 2000 model?

97-99 have different sensors than 2000 and up.. You will need new sensors.

1997 through 2000 are the same part number.
1997 - 2000 10438853
the new sensor didn't start until 2001
2001 - 2002 25648293

Do a retrain.

1) Turn ignition on
2) Press "Reset" button in order to clear any IPC display warning messages
3) Press and release the "Options" button on the DIC to scroll through the
display options until the IPC display is blank
4) Press and hold the DIC "Reset" button for 3 seconds
5) Press the "Options" button again until TIRE TRAINING message appears
6) Press "Reset" button until the IPC "Learn L Front Tire" message appears in
order to begin the programming
7) Install the J41760 Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) System Programming Tool
(large magnet will do) over the left front valve stem
8) The horn will sound, indicating the left front TPM sensor is programmed
(if this takes more than 15 seconds, pull magnet back and try again, it will
give you three tries. Then you must start over)
9) When the horn sounds, proceed to program the next TPM sensor in the
following order as directed by the IPC messages:
-Learn R Front Tire
-Learn R Rear Tire
-Learn L Rear Tire

Programming can be canceled by turning ignition off, waiting 2 minutes with
no sensors being learned, finishing all 4 wheels or through the DIC.

If the programming is canceled with less than 4 sensors learned, it will only
accept the codes programmed up to that point.

Just to be sure, it's really easy to reset the sensors if you have a magnet:
To train the sensors you need a strong (preferably u-shaped or circular) magnet.
1. Turn key to ON (don't start the car)
2. Press the DIC RESET button to clear any warning messages, if they are present.
3. Press the OPTIONS button and cycle through the menu until the display goes blank.
4. Press and hold the RESET button until FOB training appears on the display.
5. Press the OPTIONS button once and the Tire Training message should appear.
6. Press the RESET button once, and the Learn Left Front Tire message appears.
7. Hold a magnet over the Valve Stem on left front wheel. You may have to move it around the valve stem to hit the right spot.
8. When the horn beeps (about 5 sec. later), programming is complete for THAT wheel.
9. Program the other 3 wheel sensors as directed by the DIC message display. The sequence is as follows: L Front, R Front, R Rear, L Rear.
You only have about 30 seconds, I believe, to train each tire. If the sensor isn't reset in that time, the training program shuts back down.
If your sensor isn't reading the pressure correctly, this procedure will not help. You can try letting out almost all of the air in the tire and refilling it. Sometimes that clears the sensors. If not, the sensor probably needs to be replaced.

I don't think this is correct. I believe new sensors started with the '01 model year. MikeyD, sounds like a simple retraining of the sensors should solve your problem.

I checked the C5 parts manual and the new sensors didn't start until 2001

Thats good to know. There for a little bit I thought i was going to have to buy new sensors! I'm going to try the retrain procedure from above tonight. Thanks all.

I've got custom wheels (from CCW in Daytona) on a 2000 coupe and have not been able to get the sensors trained since installation. I know where they've been moved, and tried placing the magnet both outside and inside the rim with no success. I'm trying to find a stronger magnet in the hope that might work.

Please advise if anyone has any tips on this.

Your sensors should be compatible. Do a sensor relearn and you should be fine. Different sensors came out in 2001.
