Man, Let me bump this for you as I installed mine and it rattles like a SOB! Makes my car sound cheap! Soneone help us.
Best,
Chris
PS Tried the search feature but it appears not to be working.
My wife had it put in her 2003 coupe, and I hate it . It make so much noise, I had them reinstall it . Still make the same noise. Every body out there must be like my wife, and plays the Radio so loud ,that they can't hear it. I wanted to take it out, but it my wife's car so I have to put up with it. I tried to get a answer out of Hurst about it. All I got out of them was they didn't know of a problem. I will never buy anything off them again!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AAAHHHHHH. I know HOW to install it. I am saying that it rattles like crazy when I am driving and in gear! I can mute part of it while holding the gear shift, but can still feel slight vibrations in it and as soon as I let go.....RATTLE RATTLE RATTLE.....like a coke can filled with buck shot. That is what I am looking for. If it make a difference it is on a 2003 anniversary 'vert.
Best,
Chris
If your trying to re-use the OEM **** that's most likely where all the buzzing etc is coming from. Once I replaced the OEM **** with a SOLID MGW all the noise stopped.
In addition, it takes a few thousand miles for the Hurst to break in. That too will quiet some of the "mechnical" noise the very solid Hurst transmits back into the cabin.
I also cut a tennis ball in half and slid it down nice and snugg around the base inside the rubber collar and that really helped cut the noise.
Hey guys. I'm working on a modified version of a **** adapter to use the Hurst f-body **** on the C5 Hurst shifter. This was my first thread about it a couple of weeks ago.
I've since ordered and received a second Hurst **** and I'm going to try a modified version of this adapter that allows the **** to screw down lower on the shifter.
In doing this, I noticed that this type of ****, screwed down tight and locked in really well, damps the vibrations quite well and makes no noise whatsoever. To date, the MGW had done the best job but had to be tightened to the point of almost stripping the setscrew hole threads. But this new Hurst **** setup beats that one. Btw, I also have the tennis ball half installed that Tom mentions above.
I post the results of my next test with this **** soon.
It is not coming from the ****, but rather it feels as if it is coming from the bottom part of the shifter rattling away from between the slot when it is in gear. For example, in third gear, I can feel a little play from left to right when i wiggle the gear shift from left to right, and I think this is where the nosie comes from. It goes back and forth so quickly we perceive it as a rattle or buzzing sound. If I grasp the ****, i can quiet it somewhat, but can still feel it jiggling, especially at a higher rate of speed. This is really hard to describe in writing, but if anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Chris
Try installing wheel weights around the shaft of the shifter/ I did this w/ the B&M and it quieted it down alot. I have been told if you get a heavier **** it will quiet down also. Kaley
Hit it with a hammer, use duct tape, insert a tennis ball, string a bunch of WHEEL WEIGHTS around it?
This is a HURST for christs sakes! Is this what this company has evolved into? Why not just push a pound of mouse turd into the hole where the shifter resides, that might quiet the thing down. And to think I was actually contemplating a purchase..................
They used to be the best in the shifter business...................
This crap is senseless! Hurst should pay YOU guys for installing their product.............
My Hurst made a 'rattle' noise after installation.
I changed the shift **** for KPS Billet Aluminum ball.
$40. The noise immediately cleared up. I don't know if it
was the weight of the Billet **** or the hollow construction
of the OEM ****. It's been almost 2 Yrs. now.
sigh...that's what other people have said, buti have the Shale interior in my car and like the oem ****. It sucks that I should have to switch ***** because of a "performance" shifter.
