I have a tire leak on my chrome wagon wheel. When the tire was pulled off in attempt to fix, we found some of the chrome flaking off. The tire guy said that was the cause of the leak and the rim has to be re-chromed in order to solve the problem. Anyone know if this is true, and what to look out for when I look for a chroming shop? Any recommendations for Los Angeles area?
Flaking chrome isn't going to cause a tire to leak air. I'd suggest you mix up some soapy water and use a paint brush to apply all around the rim and the valve stem. I think it's the valve stem area. Especially if the sensors were touched. It either needs to be tightened or the O-ring is bad.
If the wheel isn't damaged there should be no leaks around the rim/tire bead.

If your wheels are so porus that the only thing holding the air in is the chrome, you need some new wheels! If you have pressure sensors, make sure they are installed correctly and are on tight. The bead of the tire may not be seating properly either. Could be several things. :yesnod: :)
Had a slow leak, one pound a week, in my right rear tire. Checked the tire pressure sensor nut, and it was hand tight, supposed to be torqued to seven newton meters. This cured the problem.
Flaking chrome is not going to be the fault of your air leak.
