Default Vararam Velocity Stack

I was told that installing a vararam velocity can actually decrease the air flow. Is that correct. If so, why do they sell it as an enhancer to the existing throttle body unit? I bought the system and am loving it but I just wanted a little insight from everyone. Thanks

I haven't seen flow charts, but since it slides into the throttle body, its decreasing the cross section area in front of the butterfly. This is why some people say it will decrease the amount of air your throttle body can flow. I would guess that smoothness of the insert, and the fact that it covers up the awful casting areas GM used to pull vacuum, it will help in the long run.

But its probably not going to outperform a TB that has been epoxied and warmed over with a dremel.

The claim is that the insert redirects airflow upward and that porting isn't as good; I've been waiting for delivery several weeks to test it.

Put mine in this weekend. What I did notice is it greatly smoothed out the idle. No more lumpy cam sound and feel. As far as SOTP goes ???? It is well built and engineered, the trailing edge sits flush against the leading edge of the butterfly opening. Vararam charges an extra $20 for Corvette owners and those with aftermarket intakes. :bs I dont think overall it leads to a huge performance increase, but I like the way it smoothed out my idle.
