Got up at 5 this morning because I couldn't wait any longer. Neighbors, I am sure, were upset at 7.
Two-Tip version from Exit 28. Overall looks were good, not as clean as the Borla or Corsa systems. Looks to have screened material in the over-axle pipes as well as both arms of the 'hoop' where the Stinger or GHL muffler sits.
Install was a pain in the butt. Turned out they welded up the Corsa's, so getting them off was awful - had to get the car's back end way too high for my liking.
Mounting the two-piece B&B's was a snap, but be forewarned:
1. I installed new ZO6 sway bars at the same time, so I had the brackets off. If you don't reinstall the sway bar completely before mounting the BULLETS, you will be taking them off again. The over-axle to tip flange completely blocks the upper mounting bolt for the sway bars, as was previously mentioned in another thread.
2. Gaskets supplied by B&B could have been a little better - thin organic material. I chose to use some metallic ones I had handy, and I think this gave a snugger fit.
3. The supplied bolts and SELF LOCKING nuts for the second flange were a PITA. The welds are not clean like the Corsa's, there is no room to get a good socket wrench on them, and you have to torque the nut thru the entire length of the bolt. MAJOR PITA, and my knuckles are bloody.
4. Alignment was not too bad - had to provide a few well placed 'nudges' with my sneakers to make everything perfect, but once I tightened everything up it looks just fine.
Sound: :D :D :D
Passing police officers will definitely have to be with lifted throttle... A lot lower tone than the Corsa's, no motor boat idle. WOT sounds better with the Corsa's, I have to admit, but idle and cruise is definitely a lot meatier.
Very Boomy, but in a nice way. It is easy to shift out of any resonance, of which there is definitely a bit of. Slight burble on deceleration. I have the Magnaflow X-Pipe, and couldn't tell you what it would be like with factory H-pipe.
I cruised past the IHOP at 45 mph, and everyone stared. :D :D
Looks good. Tips stick out a bit farther, but this might be to reduce some of the boominess in the cabin.
Anyone in the DFW area that wants a listen, give me a shout.
I had the same problem with the bolts. Seems like the holes in the flanges need to be further to the outside, away from the pipe. I love the sound though!
Post some pics of yours!
I have been to Flower Mound delivering horses before.
I got the 4 tips on this morning as well. Just one word, AWESOME! Had the sway bar issue as well, so that slowed us down a bit, but overall the install was straight forward. Spent more time making sure they were lined up.
She definately has a sweet tone to her now!! Incredible.
I agree with all that you said. I had the same PITA opinion of the bolts.
As far as dyno'ing, any C5 mod veteran knows that cat back exhausts are not worth dynoing. there just isn't much rwhp to be had with cat backs. I will probably dyno it at the next "dyno day" at MTI just for grins, but I don't expect anything over the PRT"s I had.
I have a set of the GHL's on my car since thet first came out with a Magnaflow X-pipe.Can somebody tell me the difference between the original exhaust system and the "bullets".Thanks--Rod :chevy :chevy :flag :chevy :chevy
