Just had the B&B PRT muffler system with the speedway tips installed this weekend. There was a slight problem with alignment though. The left side installed perfectly, but the right side seemed as if it were angled and it set about 1.5" higher than the left side. Is there anything out there that will cure this problem? some sort of tool or clamp assembly that will help align the tips better?
I just had the B&B bullets installed and had the exact same problem. We just loosed the bolts on the mis-adjusted one (bolts connecting pipe to H-pipe) and had a second person hold up the muffer tips in place and retightened bolts. The bracket in back doesn't help readjust much.
Good luck
I had the same problem on the right side of my PRT ellipticals awhile back. I tried everything to get them aligned. Finally gave up and contacted B&B. I sent them a few pictures of the alignment and the response I got was rather refreshing: they agreed that they had some problems with the right side welding process and that even after the nearly year I had them they would swap mufflers, no problem.
I got the new muffler and put it on (very easy since I only needed to replace the muffler part not the over the axle pipe) and it aligned immediately, much to my relief. It looks SOOOO much better. Finally I can look at the back of my car...
Give them a call if you just can't align the tips (at least there are only 2 Speedway tips!)
I had the same problem with mine I just welded them in place and they don't move at all. Mine would line up before but would then move after awhile. Having four tips made it pretty noticeable so I did the welding not really what I wanted to do but effective.
Same problem here with quad ovals PRT's. I ditched the band clamps & had them welded. I got them as close to perfect as was possible & welded them. So far so good. SCOTT
found something that cured the problem. I removed the stock muffler hanger bolt assembly and replaced with longer bolts. This gave me a little room to adjust the muffler a good 3" up or down and somewhat of an adjustment on the angle also. Don't know how long it will last before it shifts, but if it does I think I'll have it welded. Thanks for all the replies. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that these mufflers didnt align well. They sound good though.
Glad you found a fix. You will love them! If you want to get louder put some
long tube headers on and it will totally wake up those PRT's. I get compliments all the time with my set up.
