Mitch, no disrespect but did you get the numbers from a book/site etc. The reason I ask is that as you can see from my earlier post I referred to Chris Endres's book. I have taken a lot of tips from this book & would like to asses to accuracy of the info provided. :blueangel:
mitch i think gm went 500 lift in 2000 model....
I could be wrong but I don't think so, GM changed the cam, intake manifold, and MAF on the 2001s. That is why the 97-00 are rated 345 HP and the 01-04 are rated 350 HP. I did a search in the forum archives and these are the specs that I came up with.
There has been only one cam change in the C5 LS1 - in 2001 - when a number of other changes were made in the C5 LS1 motor. The other changes include:
- an air inlet in the front of the air cleaner cover
- a larger MAF (from a 74 mm to 85 mm)
- a larger intake (LS-6) manifold
- a switch from stainless steel 4 into 1 headers to cast iron tri-y headers
- the addition of two "pup" cat convertors (four cat convertors in total compared to 2 in the 1997-2000).
My understanding is that no further changes were made to the 2002-2004 C5 LS1 engines.
There was a cam change in 2000, as well as several other minor internal changes including piston top and combustion chanber design. These changes were not well publisized. I believe that V8_club has the right cam numbers in his post.
This is not a "flame". As time goes by, well intended but incorrect data creeps into the Corvette the hobby.
That said, I acknowledge that some of the cam data I cited in a prior post could be wrong, but I still believe it to be correct.
My understanding is that 1998-2002 F-Bodies (Camaros and Firebirds) LS1 engines were equipped with a cam with the following specs:
- Intake / Exhaust Duration: 198 / 208 degrees @ .050 Llift
- Intake / Exhaust Lift: .500" / .500"
- LSA: 115.5
Some of you also cite a cam with identical specs as being the cam that was installed in 2000 C5 LS1's.
The F-Body LS1 cam required an an externally visible EGR valve, which all F-Bodies have. 2000 C5's do not have an externally visible EGR valve, which would likely have been required if a cam with specs identical to the F-Body cam had been installed in the 2000 C5 LS1 engines.
Regarding Mitch@ TigerShot's data, multiple sources indicate that the cam duration specs on the 1997-2000 C5 LS1 are 202 degrees intake / 210 degrees exhaust @ .050 lift. Also multiple sources indicate that the cam lift specs for a 2002-2004 LS6 are .551" intake / .547 exhaust.
Perhaps someone should send an inquiry to Corvette Quarterly to clear the air on the C5 LS1 cam specs issue.
Thanks to Chris Endres for this wonderful book. I have learnt a lot from it. If any of you guys haven't read it yet , I recommend you do. Trust me it is reallly a good book for both novices & pros alike. :flag :steering:
