Re: My car STILL has problems starting (Jimmy Smits)
Jimmy - is it possible, if that were to go bad, that the car wouldn't hold fuel pressure if the car is turned off? Before my fuel pump install, i noticed that my fuel pressure wouldn't rise until I cycled the ign. a few times.
Sounds like the fuel line check valve is sticking open with the engine turned off.
Here is what you need to do... connect a pressure gauge to the fuel rail, turn key to "ON" listen for the fuel pump to run (pre-pressurizerunfuel system) and note fuel pressure, (stock fuel pump 55 to 61 PSI). Start engine and note fuel pressure. Turn engine off, and note fuel pressure. With the pressure gage still connected leave car and go spend some quality time with your woman (at least 1 hour). Return to car and note pressure. If the pressure is 0 than the check valve is stuck open.
OR...there is a leak in the fuel feed circut in the following areas;
Fuel Pump fuel feed line
The valve or valve seat within the fuel pressure regulator
The fuel injector(s).
i had the same problem on my 1997 and i put a fuel gauge on it the pressure would go right up when you hit the key and go right back down. the check valve in the line had failed and the car would crank and than start. replaced line all is good again.
