I have one, it does a good job of keeping water out of the engine compartment. It is a must have if you are going to an aftermarket intake and you drive in the rain.
Forget the performance part...does not add anything. :nonod:
What it does do fairly well though is keep water/dirt/small debris from getting under the hood lip. Comes in handy if you have an open element filter such as a Blackwing or K&N. Keeps the paint in that area cleaner too.
Several have bought weatherstripping from places like Home Depot and that works just as well. I'm sure they will chime in...there are those also that think the seal is worthless for anything. It's a personal choice.
For more info do a search under "hood seal" in "archived topics"...plenty to read. :yesnod:

Re: Performance Hood Seal (Brannon)
I have one on mine and it does seem to keep water out of the front of the engine and perhaps even keeps a little of the dust out also. Cheap mod for that benefit.

It does keep the water out. The funny thing is that it is really just a thick piece of weather stripping cut to about a four foot section. So I guess in a way it is kind of a rip off. I haven't priced giant weather stripping at Home Depot but I'll bet it is not $4.00 a foot
The guys who sell this stuff are making a killing. Wish I could have got in on the ground floor of that one. Oh well. It does keep the water out. (I keep telling myself that)
I got mine at AUTO ZONE for about $8-10 bucks and it was enough to do BOTH o my vetts!
I will be going there tomorrow and I will get the manufacture and Auto Zone part# for ya!!
It made a TREMENDOUS difference in the amount of dirt that I had to clean off of the engine and I kept getting water in my modified stock air box. In the winter the water would freeze :mad :mad :cuss and give me codes!
Since I installed the seal the filter has been cleaner and DRY
It is a very worth while MOD :iagree: :yesnod: :D

I am sure it is good for getting less dirt in that area. But remember, that dirt came in with AIR also. So that means you are changing the factory designed air flow characteristics through the engine bay. This has to be detrimental to performance in some way. The GM Corvette engineers DID NOT put a seal there for a purpose. They did not just forget it.
I think the oem side seal looks better than the performance weather stripping. You need to trim about an inch off and can use a strip of 1/4" tape right on the edge of the nose as a guide when sticking it on.

If you have a Blackwing air filter, this seal is a MUST. If you do not have the seal installed and you wash your car, the air filter will get soaked.

:iagree: I have a Blackwing air filter and believe the seal is well worth the price given the peace of mind it gives you knowing you're keeping the exposed aftermarket filter dry.
However, I wouldn't call it a "performance mod" though...I guess its good marketing to call the weather stripping a "Performance Hood Seal". I actually prefer the name "Supercharged/Twin Turbo - Prepare for the G-forces and Scream for Mama - Performance Hood Seal" - now we're talking!
