Re: help*stupid oil drain plug direction question (Cajun75)
Yes it does :yesnod: and it doesn't matter if you're laying down, standing up or upside down with one hand behind your back :D The plug will always tighten clockwise and loosen counter-clockwise.
What if you're inside the oil pan looking out? :jester
Re: help*stupid oil drain plug direction question (mebrahimi)

since this thread is done, I will take my extremely bored butt and bug someone's elses post :jester
Did you put the magnetic plug back in?
Re: help*stupid oil drain plug direction question (Mirek)
I've found that the oil drain plug does not need to be extremely tight to not leak. Most every C5 I have done work on (friends, etc) both the drain plug and especially the oil filter are over-tightened........ big time. Trick is to use a new rubber o-ring on the drain plug each time you change the oil. Let the gasket do the sealing.
Drain plug needs to be just lightly snugged with a small wrench. Could even be just hand tightened if you have a good grip.

Oh good another extension of this foolishness. :D

Me thinks your nick name must be "old iron fingers". :yesnod:
The tightening spec on this little bolt of distinction is 18 lb-ft , so I think you really do need a wrench, as you also mentioned, to achieve 18 lb-ft of torque.
Re: help*stupid oil drain plug direction question (Evil-Twin)
lefty loosy..... Righty, tighty......
turn it left to loosen.... turn it right to tighten...
left is counterclockwise
right is clockwise. all looking at the bolt head

Jim..... good one. Maybe I should change my handle to Popeye.
The only reason I posted, was the above referenced drain plug was obviously overtightened. The position of the drain plug makes it difficult for most to get a torque wrench in there without using swivels and extensions. These mess up the torque ratings....... especially on the lower values with the big wrenches.
18ftlbs is just a small step above hand tight for me on this small of a bolt. I usually just put a wrench on there and tap it tight. I just finished my last oil change and didn't even use the wrench..... hand tight only. No leaks.
