Am i good?
That seems to be in conflict. If you are on your back with your feet facing the front of the car AND you turn it left then that is counter-clockwise (which IS what you want), not clockwise (though it makes no diff where your feet are facing, just that you are on your back). As the other responder said, counter-clockwise is the way to go to loosen. For most of the fasteners on the car the old adage "Righty-tighty, lefty-loosey" won't let you down. If you are really, really, not sure OR you are afraid it's going to break for some reason then do yourself a favor and take it to the dealer and pay the ~$60 for an oil change there. If the plug breaks or the pan strips you can make it their problem, then do it yourself from then on.

...counter-clockwise to take out. Clockwise to install.
That does not answer my question.
Yes it does :yesnod: and it doesn't matter if you're laying down, standing up or upside down with one hand behind your back :D The plug will always tighten clockwise and loosen counter-clockwise.

Nothing personal Mirek, but I believe you are a candidate for a professional oil change.
Re: help*stupid oil drain plug direction question (rhoeven)
put end of wrench towards passenger side of car,,,,pull towards drivers side....if you look at it from the front facing facing the plug,,,,turn it counter clockwise.......I mean pull down on wrench towards floor towards drivers side....I will do it for 10 bucks,,,
Re: help*stupid oil drain plug direction question (Dope)
Seems like the real problem here is the last time the oil was changed the drain plug was over tightened. It should be snug but not too tight. I'm sure there is torque spec in the service manuals. It's not listed in the owners manual. :chevy

:iagree: be sure and replace the plug with a magnetic plug, $5 is cheap insurance to catch any metal particles.
Re: help*stupid oil drain plug direction question (Mirek)
:skep: You guys are giving me a headache.
While standing upright, put a socket on a ratchet, now hold the socket in your left hand and (while using your right hand to turn the ratchet) flip the switch so the ratchet is going in the direction that you need it to (righty tighty, lefty loosey). Now you can lay on your back, stand on your head, or hang from the ceiling, and the ratchet will still be going the way you need it to.
