Default magnaflow exhaust

Can the billet plate bracket be removed so it does not leave any marks or scratches on pipes? Is this system to mellow? I have a chance to pick up a system that is almost new the guy is changing it because it isn’t loud enough. The price is right but is the system right?

I own a Magnaflow system & the plate is just screwed on. I believe it can be removed simply by unscrewing it. I spoke to one member of the forum who build a C5 steel plate that covered the Magnaflow plate. You're right that the system doesn't sound aggrassive if thats your goal. It has a nice V8 rumble while at idle, sharp looking tips, good dyno results, just lacks the loud aggressive sound. It works for me though, keeps the neighbors happy & doesn't attract the local enforcement! If you want I can send you some pics & maybe sound clips.

Mine have resonance at 1500-1700 RPMs, to me the sound is loud enough, and I cannot imagine anything louder on a daily driver, but to each his own.

I have a 2002 6 speed, with the magnaflow and x pipe. The quality is second to none. Yes the sound isn't the most agressive, but its got class. As for performance, I'm currently making 405RWHP and 393RWTQ
Since nothing is perfect or free, it has the same problem as due other after market systems. That is, in 6 speeds, only, because of the .50 over drive, between 60 and 80 mph you will have a pronounced drone in the cabin. Once you're above 80 it's gone. Your other choice is to drive in 5th gear at those speeds, or put 3.73's in it. It's just something you get use to. The only time I drive in 5 th at those speeds is when my wife is in the car. Other than that it doesn't bother me.

I had the Magnaflow's for 18 months and agree with the above assessments. They are top notch and have that low V-8 rumble and moderate volume. The link below shows you some pics of my install and a couple of links to video/sound files. Be aware that I had headers in one and had added heads/cam in the second video. I also have several videos originally released by LAPD when the system was first released. These videos convinced me to buy the system.

The center plate can be removed but there are 2 stainless steel tabs welded to the pipes just behind the center tips that will show if not cut off. That would not be worth it, IMO, as it would not look so hot in such a beautifully polished system and the tip alignment would no longer be maintained since that's the function of the plate.

I made several copies of aluminum cover plates to hide the Magnaflow plate and sold them at cost to other owners of the same system. I did this as a favor and in response to requests by these guys.

For a stock C5, I think this is an excellent catback. The x-pipe is really a must, IMO. The fit and finish are second to none. Here's a pic of mine just before I sold them.

Best of luck in whatever you choose. Listen to them in person if it's at all possible. :yesnod:

Thanks for the feedback, are you still selling those plates? They look great. I think you guys convince me to go ahead and purchase this system can’t wait to get it installed. Please let me know if you are willing to sell one of those C5 plates. The only shame is I have a Billet one stuck on the car oh well it could be reused later. :flag
