Default Spec III users inside please.

I just called to order my spec III from Thunder and the guy there told me I would need to install a mcleod adjustable master as well with this clutch. He said its a crap shoot as to whether my clutch would dissengage properly or not. I have no hydralic system issues now, but don't want to have to install master later and then have tear into it to bleed the system. I called spec and they confirmed this??? How come I see so many people with this clutch and say nothing about the adjustable master. How many have this set-up without the adjustable master?

I did the Z06 slave, no adjustable master. :)
Clutch is fine without it. Great value too, hard to believe under $450 for the kit.

hey good choice with the spec III clutch....it definatly takes a while to get used to but it does grab awesome. I had all this done about 6 weeks ago at east coast super charging. I went with the zo6 slave and they also put in an aluminum flywheel. I kept my master cylinder stock. (i have a 97 so its pretty old) but in the 6 week i have had it it works awesome with no complaints. But it really takes some time to get used to....i had a big problem trying to start off in 1 gear smoothly but now im getting the hang of it!! You dont need the master cylinder thats what ecs told me. They said the master cyl. barley ever goes out.

I had a SPEC stage III clutch in my 98 Trans am. it is VERY hard to get used to. I was told i had to do the adj. cylinder and did buy it. The clutch was great, but after 7months, one of the springs on the clutch blew out and i had to replace the entire clutch. It ends up that i had an old model clutch. They recently changed the design, so if you get it then make sure that you get a newer model design. Overall the clutch was great, but it will take a good hour or so to get the feeling of it! Good luck, its a great buy!

We have installed many sets with the stock master with no problems. We usually always change the slave and bleed the system well. :seeya

I have been using the first generation spec III for over 2 years and it has never slipped, it rattles a little now when cold--it took a few hundred miles to break in, when new it was all or nothing but soon smoothed out to a stock feel with no slip, I have the original master and am going to replace it with a stock new master with the new spec III I'm putting in with the stroker, I will use the zo6 slave and using alum fly this time--I never used an adj master and don't intend to and never had a problem, it could be the clutch would work better with the adj I have no idea but know you don't need one.

i have the spec stage 3 and alum flywheel setup in the 99 421 stroker. it did work fine with z06 master, but would not power shift above 5k rpms in any gear. the mcloed adj does push more fluid and sine the install, never a single problem out of any component. joe

I sell and install Spec clutches all the time. No adjustable cylinder is needed. I put in a new stock slave just to be safe.

I had a spec when they first came out. the thing was so far off balance that I had it replaced with a new Z06. Had to pay for 2 installs and finally took the charge of the credit card. Their service was terible and they evan sent me a hate mail when I got my money back for their piece of junk.

When changing the salve do you have to use one from the z06? I have a brand new C5 slave from someone who didnt need it.

Well I have had both the Mcloed and now the '02 master. I was having problems with the Mcloed so I put the '02 master in and it has worked perfectly for over a year now.

I also sell the SPEC clutches and install them. I have had one F-body that needed an adjustable master cylinder, but no Vette issues at all. They are a great clutch! I have nothing but good things to say about their products as well as the company. Very easy to deal with, friendly and will stand behind their parts 100%! :yesnod:  :yesnod:

Get it! You will definitly want it!
