Exide Orbital Battery Install (^!@#%**&)
I bought an Exide Orbital (like an Optima) today could not get the factory battery cables to make solid contact with the side posts... was very frustrating. Ended up returning the battery after the parts store folks and I spent an hour plus screwing around.
Anyone out there have a similar experience with non-delco replacement batteries??
The Delco battery has a much bigger open space where the battery post can mate to the stock battery cable... I should have gone with an Optima in the first place... any problems getting the Yellow Top to hook up??? Oh well... ya gotta learn something new every day!!!
I installed the Optima Red Top that I bought at CostCo about a month ago, and it fit just fine...actually, I was afraid it was a bit small, but it fits great, and works great inspite of the freezing temps in the morning.
I replaced my DELCO with a Champion XLT (AGM Battery) size/number DT35/CHXDT35 made by Exide. Got it at SAMS Club for $90-95. It has 690 CCA, 850 CA, a 36 month free replacement and free jump-start, and a 108 month limited warranty.
I had no problems installing the battery or cables.
What's the weight on some of these batteries (Optima red or yellow)...are any of them lighter than the factory Delco?
Any chance of using a lightweight battery such as a Dynabatt or Hawker Genesis in a C5 or are there just too many electronic items in the car for a such a tiny battery (13 pounds) to handle.
I can only say that it still felt really heavy, like the battery that was in there before. I bought it solely to eliminate the risk of battery leakage.
