From what the claims are the vararam is supposed to be better. I don't know that for a fact but the specs look better for the vararam. Thats the one I got. I thought it would only help my top end being a ram air but thats not true. It improved my low end and throttle response really well. I usually street race and do 10-20mph roll on starts. Before I got the vararam every ws6 trans am, ls1 camaro supersport, and any other fast car would always get me on the start but I would run them down through 3rd gear everytime. Now with the vararam I get ahead from the beginning and increase the car lengths as the race goes. This suprised me but thats the way it went. I don't know if this helps you any but since no one replied yet I figured I would. Anything is better than nothing. :)
I had a Vortex on a '97 and now I have a Vararam on the 2000. It feels like the Vararam gives a little more boost, especially at highway speeds. But then again, this is in two separate cars so its really hard to say. But I don't think you can wrong with either setup. As far as whether its worth it going from a Vortex to a Vararam, I couldn't say. If it was me though, I'd take the money and get a power tune job on the PCM, if you hadn't already. Bryan from PCM did mine for $250 and it made a world of difference. (Specially tuned for that extra gulp of air).
