I noticed a rattle/knock when I shut off the engine. It does it about everyother time. Its been doing it for awhile now. I was wondering if anybody has ever had this problem. Any advise. Thanks for the help.
A fellow Okie......cool. Anyway, if your car is a six speed its your clutches in your tranny making the noise most likely. Try pushing your clutch in next time you shut if off and see if this fixes your "problem". It's actually a very common issue with 6 speeds. Regards, Eric :seeya
It probably would not hurt to due the decarb procedure to get rid of any carbon deposits that are usually the cause of the diesel like rattle. It's worth it if only for the reaction of your neighbors, as it creates a lot of smoke and they will think your car is heading for the last roundup :p: :lolg:
This is a C5 COMMON complaint for new MN6 owners. The noise is normal and only happens when you shut the engine down with the trans out of gear. Try shutting it down with the clutch pushed in. It should not make the noise.
I do not believe that there is anything wrong with your clutch or trans.
I tried shutting it off with the clutch pedal held in and the noise goes away. It still does it when the car is out of gear and if the clutch is not in. Is this really normal or is there something wrong? I have had the car for awhile and somebody told me that it was normal but I wasnt exactly sure. Its embarrassing when your with some friends and you shut the car off and it makes that noise. What exactly is causing it? Thanks for the help. :steering:
Normal with the motor in the front/trans in the rear technology - my Porsche 944 did the same thing years ago. I've been told by a tech that it's caused by the "lash" in the torque tube between the motor and the trans.
Hey C5XP--- First time I heard it was in the dealer parking lot with 3miles on the car...My baby was brand spanking NEW !!!... Ignore it or throw in the clutch......

totaly normal. when building a sports car, some compromises are made. Lighter stronger parts, or quite smooth ones. That why there is some clutch chatter, i belive it the throw out bearng disengagin from the pressure plate
