Yes it was my fault. I am looking for a ground and loosened the silver metal bolt in the first picture that is at the "exterior corner of the black battery and fuse box divider frame" and lost some air. I heard it come out. Is this a major problem and what line does this go to? My manuals are at home and I am currently away. It is tightened back up, but is there a spec this needs to be tightened to? 10 ft/lbs? Can I drive the car fine or does it need to be fixed? The bolt is directly below the "the" in "drive the car" in the sentence above.
Also, does anyone know a good strong ground around here or near the fuse box? Are any bolts in the pic below good grounds? Thanks for the help! :seeya
Well, if you unbolted the one I think you did, you just let a bunch of refrigerent out (or air in) to the air conditioning system :cry I would not run the air (or anything that might turn it on) until you get it looked at (if it were me). If you do, you run the risk of damaging the compressor (in my opinion). As for the ground, there is a star connection further up front on the frame rail you should be able to tap into (also one right there, but it's under the divider).
freon 134 was te noise,, if it wasnt much,, you may be ok, but the ac will be weak,, it should not hurt to drive it,, ac has low pressure switch so if much leaked, it wont work,, go to garage and have it charged,,50 bucksor so,,bummer
YUP!!! You vented some freon! You can buy R134 and the kit to charge it from Wal_Mart, but you better let someone who knows what they are doing charge it back up! If you over charge it or charge it back up with non compressable gasses in the system (AIR) it will degrade or damage the system!
I'm not totally sure why you unbolted an AC line, thats pretty funny actually. :seeya
If you only let R134a come out for a few seconds and snugged it back up, I'm sure you'll be fine. If it came out for more than, say, 10-20 seconds, you may have gotten to the point where the pressure will be too low and will cause the compressor to kick in too much. You're not going to break anything by driving the car, but if TONS of stuff came out (a slow leak will last hours, so a few seconds is nothing) then just dont turn the A/C on until you get it recharged.
