I painted my calipers last year, reinstalled the caliper bolts, torqued them at 23 ft-lbs using blue loctite. On my last drive the upper bolt snapped. This caused for the caliper to slide off the pad and rest on the rim. Still had stopping power, but scrapped the wheel and caliper (just imagine if i had more clearance between the caliper and wheel, ie 19" wheel). I am now changing all the bolts on my brakes. Just taught i would share this, there has been many discussions on the forum about reusing the original bolts after each use. I was very lucky and think it's worth the trip to the dealer to get a new set every time.
Hummm, First time for me seeing that also! Ya got me scratching my ~~~~ head on that one. There is absolutely no braking force on that bolt, it just holds the caliper in place to squeeze the pads, the bracket takes all the braking load. check to make sure the slider is free and the caliper slides back and forth (centering). Sometimes too much grease on the sliders will cause them to lock up in the bracket.
Maybe just a bad bolt???
Its a shame it happened messed up the caliper and rim pretty good, sorry!
