I was driving to work this morning and my fuel gauge just droped to empty. It did this to me about 6 months ago. Can anyone tell me what might the problem be and does it need to go to the dealer for repair? I work at a derest Air Base in CA so you can guess I freaked out being in the middle of nowhere. Sure could use some insight on this problem.. :banghead:
Its the fuel sending unit inside the gas take that is messed up, reset your DIC again Ray, ive read where its been replaced and the same problem came back.
My gauge did this three different times, I was told to try a fuel additive called Techron, sold at Wallmart.I also started running Sunoco 94 octane gas.The problem has gone away.Good luck with yours.
Had the same problem with my fuel gage about 4 months ago. I added some fuel system cleaner (can't remember the brand) and haven't had a problem since. From what I've read the fuel level sensors are suseptible to some type of fouling that causes them to malfunction.
There are two bulletins out on this, and the last software update for the PCM for this problem was released last June. One of the recommendations in the bulletin is to change brands of fuel to see if it goes away. It is caused by the sulpher content in the fuel. Mine is doing it right now as well, and I find it very aggravating to say the least.

:iagree: If these things don't work, you may have to get the fuel sending units replaced.
I was advised by a reputable dealer to be selective about fuels, but that's not always an option. I think GM blew it on this one with the tank design and components, though I understand why they did it after reading All Corvettes Are Red.
There are TSB's about this, and I had my sender replaced under warranty for the exact same thing. :iagree:
