I searched for about a half hour but couldnt find what I was looking for in over 20 threads dealing with 4.10s.
What I know is 4th ends at 120 w/ the 4.10s and 5th is an overdrive, so how does 5th pull w/the 4.10s?
If I were to have some fun w/ a 3.42 geared c5 how bad would she pull from me over 120 since she is still in 4th? (all other mods being equal). 4.10s sound like a load of fun and I am serioulsly considering them, I just dont want to make my car a pig over 120. I hope someone might have some real world experience with this. Thanks.
If you have 4.10's 6th gear is a lot more usable. In fact, as you get to the upper half of 400hp near 500 your car will be near a top speed of 200 in 6th. This has been done by more than one forum member. I have 4.10's and 5th is like 4th was with 3.42's
"Your car will pull harder in EVERY gear including 6th. Your Vette will run out of power well before it runs out of gear."
Thanks, I understand that each gear will pull harder than it would with 3.42s, but how will it pull dependent on mph not on gear. At 125mph I am now in 5th (which pulls harder than the old 5th) but if I still had 3.42s I would still be in 4th.
I guess my real question is how does 5th with 4.10s pull compared to 4th gear with 3.42s. :)

The 4th gear is the strongest gear in our T56. So to answer ur question the 4th gear on a 3.42 will pull harder than a 5th gear on a 4.10 which is an advantage past the 1/4mile.........
On the other hand, the 4th gear will pull harder than a 3rd gear in a 3.42 which is an advantage in the 1/4mile.

4;10'S ARE KILLER ! I will have my 4:10 Gear set up For Sale Next weekend , I am doing a A4 Conversion and I don't need them anymore due to a new set up . ( 750 miles )
Re: Highway pull with 4.10s (5th gear)? (JJ in FL)
Heres where you would stand with 4.10 gears
(top speed in each gear)
1st, 45 mph
2nd, 67 mph
3rd, 92 mph
4th, 120 mph
5th, 162 mph
6th, 200+ mph (that is if you had the HP to push the car through the air that fast)
Gears will make your car quicker, I have no doubt that your car is fast now.. installing these gears will not slow it down by any means.

If you want to re-calculate these findings you can go to http://www.f-body.org/gears and play with the numbers yourself to find out more about gear ratios, tire sizes and how it all works out for our cars. ;)

JJ:
Sent you a chart illustrating the T-56 in combination will all the popular rear gear sets out there. Keep in mind as stated below, you will be horsepower and drag limited at the very top end of the charts in 6th gear.

Re: Highway pull with 4.10s (5th gear)? (JJ in FL)
I run 390s and I can tell you 5th is a very usable gear all the way to redline and 6th pulls hard after that (depending on power, I have lots) the car will have more top end than it does as your gears will be usable and you will get more rpm out of the higher gears--
Re: Highway pull with 4.10s (5th gear)? (JJ in FL)
JJ,
I have an '02 Z06 with the LS1 trans (2.66:1 first gear) and 4.10:1 ring and pinion. My car will turn 119 mph in four gear (1.00:1) and 159 mph in fifth gear (0.75:1) at 6,500 rpms.
Thanks everyone for all these replies. This all started because my brother has a 01 vette with the same mods as me. He doesnt want to change his gears, and im not planning on telling him that I am. :reddevil Sometimes we play around on the highway, and on those rare occurances we go over 120. ;) I dont want him to walk right by me. But im guessing ill have a pretty good lead by the time we hit 120 :D
Sorry about the email problem, I have a new email since I registered, Im going to change it on the forums. I already have a chart that shows the speeds in each gear.
