I want to upgrade my rotors only and was wondering if anybody has put on the Porsche rotors where the holes are cast and not drilled. I've e-mailed MOVIT about six times and never received a response, terrible customer service! :flag
Thanks for the post! Hope you are enjoying your rotors.
vettethret,
If your interested I would be happy to offer you free installation on a set of rotors. I see your less then 5 miles away from me. I am currently out of town participating in a race in Seattle. I will be back in Ca on Dec 10th in case your interested.
The StopForce rotors work fine. I've had them on my modded Z06 since May 2003. They performed flawlessly. The car has set a track record at Pocono North, FTD at Pocono East and FTD at Lime Rock. The rotors have almost 20 open track days in 2003, including a half dozen at Watkins Glen which is hard on brakes. Since I'm the Chief Instructor at NASA Northeast and instruct for most of the other clubs as well, I do not baby the car on the track.
The rotor is the Porsche 993 TT mated to a custom alum 'hat' using the stock Porsche 'nutserts' which come from the factory. The weakness relative to the Mov'it package is the Z06 caliper which doesn't measure up to either the 4-piston Brembo 'Big Red' or the 6-piston Brembo monoblock. Don't worry about the rears; you won't need 'em.
I am interested. Call me at 714-290-2063 when you get back. Would these rotors be able to bolt up to the back as well or are they different measurments? Have you tried the Rippie brake bias spring?. Good luck with your race. :flag
A few of our customers have purchased front C5 calipers/brackets and choose to install our rotors on the rear as well. To do it correctly more is needed then just the brake bias spring. Its also recommended you change out your master cylinder to the truck type unit that Mallet uses on their brake upgrades. You "Could" do without the master cylinder but the pedal will feel sloppy. It will require more effort on the brake pedal because of the amount of fluid it has to transfer until the brake pads engage. I have seen it done both ways with our brakes, neither of which I recommend. I will give you a call when I get back into town!
Its 18.5lbs which is about 4-5oz heavier then stock. Whats important to note here is the weight has been moved from the hub area to the friction surface. There is over 3/4 of an inch more metal material on the diameter of the rotors surface. Even though the stock C5 calipers pads cannot cover this much swept area the improvement in heat capacity is huge. This is the same rotor that comes factory with 4 piston Brembo calipers, it can take what the stock C5 caliper can dish out all day long.
Those look and sound awesome  , but why nothing for the rears
80% of the braking force on a Vette is at the fronts. There's no practical need to vent and cool the rears. If you look at the MBZ CL500, it's got the same vented/solid set up.
