Hey Guy's, I loking to replace my stock plugs and wires, and I was wondering which one's to buy. Currently I'm looking at NGK Iridium plugs TR55IX($55.00 for 8), and a set of MDS Super Conductors (8.5mm) (p/n msd-32819)
for $90.00). I also heard that Taylor's wires were a good buy. Any help with this matter would be welcomed.
Re: Looking to replace stock plugs and wires (Dirty_Red)
IMHO I do not believe you will benefit from the iridium plug, the TR55 should do nicely unless you spray Nitrous and then you would want to go for the TR6 plugs which run a little colder.
The price difference will be abot $38-$40 on the plugs. In addition you might check out you local speed shop and cmpare prices for the wires, that too may save you another $20 or so.

: :iagree: NGK TR-55's work fine and save the $$. I had bad luck with the Taylor wires in the past and have had better luck with MSD wires. It is easy to change plugs at about 20,000 mile intervals and allows you to check the internal workings of each cylinder when you do. Good Luck

Well..... I changed the plugs.. it is not a hard job... but if the iridium plugs last 100,000 miles..great... I have an infiniti I 30 with 115,000+ miles... and the plugs that came from the factory are iridium, and are still in it (wive's car) and it still runs like new.... so... $40 bucks more and you save 5 + plug changes...sounds cheap to me... My bet is it does not run any better with iridium plug... just the same... longer.... Thoughts? :jester :steering: :auto: :hurray: :chevy :leaving:

:iagree: Chevy recommends the AC-Delco 41-985 (GM # 12571164) gapped @ .040" (1.01mm) It's an Iridium plug. I've read somewhere(?) that they are about $5 ea.
Re: Looking to replace stock plugs and wires (Dirty_Red)
I use the NGK TR55 copper plugs - cost is much less than Iridium. I was also worried that the more expensive iridium plugs would do like the platinum plugs and get the puck of special metal blown off (someone must be driving my vette a bit spirited :D ). Will be putting in a second set of NGK TR55's and Taylor 8mm spiral pro wires sometime in the next week or so.
Re: Looking to replace stock plugs and wires (martinsw)
I changed to the TR55's and Taylor 409 Race Wire. Got them from LS1speed.com. Check out my post from yesterday to see the change in HP/TQ. Mediocre plugs and wires will rob you of power very easily. This set up really smoothed my engine out. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=700846
Here are my dynographs, the only difference is the plugs and wires.
:D
Re: Looking to replace stock plugs and wires (AZGASSER)
I pulled my stock plugs out at 15,000 and changed for the NGK Iridiums. The idle and acceleration was noticably improved. The plug wires are next.
I, however noticed that the iridiums do not have pucks like the platinums did. I was lucky, my plugs had all their pucks intact when I pulled them out. I still wonder if this is the reason why some engines consume more oil than others. I never add oil between changes on my 1999, don't need to.
Re: Looking to replace stock plugs and wires (Dirty_Red)
I just put the new Delco Iridiums in my 98. Got a great price, otherwise, would not have spent the extra $ per plug. I originally was looking to buy the TR55's. Also put in the MSD wires, but only paid $60 through AutoZone--so shop around. 90 bucks is way overpriced.
I will say I like what I see so far, though all the Delco plugs needed regapping (which is tedius with such a small electrode). Most of them were below .05, and I wanted around .057-.058. AutoTap shows no cylinder misfires under any condition after a few hundred miles. Gotta like that.
