REAR SPINDLE REPLACEMENT

http://www.jakelatham.com/misc/c5/ for replacing wheel bearings, which will go a long ways towards helping you get the spindle disassembled. I'd recommend replacing the wheel bearing too, if you smacked a curb hard enough to break the spindle.
I didn't have to use an impact on the axle nut, just about 4' worth of b*tch bar ;)
I don't think you'd need to remove the leaf spring for any reason to replace the spindle, if the control arms are not bent. But, the easiest way is to put a few towels on a floor jack, and put the jack under the spring so that it doesn't 'fwang' loose when you unscrew the adjustment bolt the entire way, and let it hang loose.
Using the same way, jack the leaf into place when you go to reinstall the bolts in the control arm through the hole in the leaf spring.
hope that helps,
