Default REAR SPINDLE REPLACEMENT

spun the car into a curb, cracked rim and spindle near the lower control arm mount, how do i remove the Right rear axle, how do i loosen the "monoleaf"? any special procedure other than breaking the axle nut w/ an impact? also where is a good source for gm parts to avoid dealer price markup

http://www.gmpartsdirect.com for the parts, send them an email with your VIN and tell them what parts you need.

You can pop the axle out of the spindle after you loosen the axle nut. I've got instructions here:
http://www.jakelatham.com/misc/c5/ for replacing wheel bearings, which will go a long ways towards helping you get the spindle disassembled. I'd recommend replacing the wheel bearing too, if you smacked a curb hard enough to break the spindle.

I didn't have to use an impact on the axle nut, just about 4' worth of b*tch bar ;)

I don't think you'd need to remove the leaf spring for any reason to replace the spindle, if the control arms are not bent. But, the easiest way is to put a few towels on a floor jack, and put the jack under the spring so that it doesn't 'fwang' loose when you unscrew the adjustment bolt the entire way, and let it hang loose.

Using the same way, jack the leaf into place when you go to reinstall the bolts in the control arm through the hole in the leaf spring.

hope that helps,

-Jake
