Guys I'm getting ready to take posession of a high mileage 99 C5 with T56. I'm looking at some mods and wondered what the magical combos are to keep it commutable/ Streetable/ Cross-country driveable and still make 500 Brake HP...
I'm getting info from far and wide, and figured I'd ask the experts here...
We've already located a shortblock and will do a full build up on it, but what heads, what cam (Keeping the streetable and usable comments above in mind) and what else has been proven? Already have a Borla exhaust with the Xpipe on the way... what else?
I've dreamed of owning one of these since they were released... Shame that I have a 530HP 383 stroker sitting on the stand right now, getting ready to go into my Datsun Zcar... Gee, bet the Holley Commander computer and harness would fit right in! :D
MIKELLY, LG MOTORSPORTS JUST POSTED A TREAD 500 STREETABLE. IT"LL
COST LOTS AS THE BLOCK ALONG COST OVER 6k. I CANT SEE HOW YOULL GET 500 HP WITH STOCK CUBES WHEN THEY GOT 427. LOWER YOU EXPECTATIONS.
Guys, he's asking for 500 CRANK HP, not rwhp. That's easily doable with heads and streetable cam, stock CID. Shoot, I'm almost there with my baby cam. :D
500hp is about 425rwhp. If you want to keep stock CID, a mild cam (TR224?) with some decent heads (TEA Stage 1.5, Absolute Speed, Patriot, whatever, they all perform well), and all the bolt ons (LS6 intake, long tube headers, X pipe with a cat back, maybe a ported TB, free flowing intake like the vararam) will easily put down 425rwhp. My car puts down 410 with a smaller cam, locally ported heads, stock cats, tb, etc..
Our G5X-2 and G5X-3 heads/cam/header packages have been making solid 450-46RWHP. If you are intested in a quote and specifics on the package give us a call at 972-272-7753.
If you want to save 2-3K just go with the G5X2 cam, bolt ons, and ls6 intake. mine put down 399rwhp on a mustang dyno before the pulley. Very close to 500 crank. I'm planning on 4:10 gears and a 100-125 wet shot for next season. Still less money than heads and cam.
