Thanks to all who answered my question about the intake filter of choice; it's the Blackwing, hands down.
NEW question: Since Blackwing does not have a C.A.R.B exemption, has anyone experienced trouble with smog checks or GM warranty work as a result of having this unit ???
No because I don't have one, but I'll bet you can expect a problem passing the visual inspection. There would seem to be an easy answer -- just take it off and put the stock box back on for the smog cert.
No problem with an after-market air intake here in Massachusetts. Newer cars aren't even required to go on the dyno. The inspection tech just plugs into the diagnostics port on the car. It checks to make sure all emissions equipment is in place. If it sees what it needs it passes the car. Just had my '01 inspection in October. :chevy I now have a twin-cone air intake in place. I expect NO problem next year when I go in for another inspection.
I would spend the extra $150, get the K&N air intake system, and NEVER worry about the smog ***** again. I went through smog hell with my 68 because some smog techs had keener eyes than others. I ended up driving 30 miles out of my way to find a "friendly" smog tech - never again. It's just not worth it to me. Besides, I'll bet the K&N flows at least as well as the Blackwing, if not better.
Smog on a "68"?..... ah... in CA 73 and older are not required to have smog certs.... hummmmmmmmmmmmmm  :hat :jester :troll :U :withstupid: :steering: :auto: :skep: :leaving:
Here is the best part. You don't have to smog for about 4 years when you buy a new car. He he. So there really is NO SMOG if you keep a fresh ride around.

When I arrived here (in CA) in 1985, I had to have the 68 smogged, since I was bringing it in from out of state. During this time period, your vehicle had to be more than 20 years old to be smog-exempt. Thus, in 1988, I was home-free. Ahhh, but things changed in the nineties. The new law stated that all vehicles newer than 1965 models HAD to be smogged every two years.
It wasn't until the late nineties that the law changed so that all pre-1974 vehicles were exempt and now, the law requires that vehicles be at least 25 years old (I think) to be exempt.
So for many years in between laws, my 68 was NOT exempt.
Nope u wont pass visual insp
