Default This sucks!

I haven't driven my Z06 in a few days. I get in to go to the store and all I hear is click, click, click. Yeap battery is dead. I jump it with my battery booster. Go to the store and when I come out all I hear is click click click.
Good thing I brought my booster with me.
I have know idea why it keeps going dead. I haven't left any thing on.
The battery cranking amps drop to 10.1 Volts.
While the car is at 2100 rpm's the volts are 14.2, if I turn the lights on it drops to 13.1. So the alternater is working but the battery won't hold a charge.
Any ideas before I head to the steelership? so they can scratch my again.
Tim

Could be the battery. GM had a lot of trouble with the glass mat batteries in our cars. My '01 had the exact same thing happen. Left me cursing two times in one week. It would not hold a charge. The battery was replaced, under warranty, and no further problems. GM stopped using the glass mat battery at the end of '03 if I remember correctly. If your charging system is working okay the problem could be the battery. Good luck. :chevy

I had a similar problem a few years ago. My battery kept dying on me day after day. I thought it was a serious problem because the battery was only 3 years old. I thought they lasted more like 5 yrs. The dealer replaced the battery and I was good for a month. After a month, I had the same problem. It wouldn't hold a charge. Next thing they looked at was the altenator. It was ok. I was told the car was fine, that the problem was me. They said that I wasn't driving the car enough. Driving the car every week-end or every other week-end didn't give the battery enough time charge is what I was told. I knew this was B.S. and that a car is able to sit a month and still hold a charge. I actually called GM and told them the problem. That must have worked because my car was at the dealer again and this time they found the problem. I only took 3-4 visits and a phone call to GM. The problem was that there was an intermitent short in the driver seat electronics. It was drawing power and killing the battery. Problem solved and no problems for the past 2 yrs.

Take the battery out of the car and charge it up. Then load test the battery to see if it is still good. If it is good, then reinstall it and then test your charging system (with a meter) to see if it is charging correctly. If the battery is bad, get a new one. If the charging system is shot, then take it to the dealership and let them fix it along with the scratch they put in it the last time.

Had my less than 2 year old stock battery die at the track Saturday (no warning) in the middle of a LS1Edit program change!

Went into town and bought an Optima red top battery. It is neat looking, tons of cold cranking amps over the stocker but a tad expensive. But it looks neat in the battery compartment!

These batteries that GM uses will die without warning and then will be completely gone, they won't hold the charge because one or more cells are dead.

Mine just died again. Time to dig out the receipt and get it replaced, again. Less than a year on this one. :smash: :smash:

C54TIM,

Your profile shows you own a 2003 C5 - if it is still under warranty, take it to Mr. Goodwrench for repair.

On my 3rd now...good thing for warranties! Also, not sure if any of you guys have noticed it or not, but the battery is covered under its own warranty. My first two had the warranty info right on it but the 3rd, which I got early September this year, came with a warranty card. Can't remeber exactly what it says, but I think its free of charge for 3 years and then prorated by month for the next 3 years - to be subtracted from the cost of a new one. Sure most of you knew this, but thought I would let it be known just in case.

I've heard that the battery that originally comes in your car is warrantied with 1 year free replacement, then its prorated. This might be different on replacement batteries.

My 2003 Z06 had a similar problem. I removed both cables and found them to be slightly corroded...... the positive was worse. Cleaned them up with a brass wire brush on the dremel tool, put the felt thingies on there...... no problem since. I was surprised they had any corrosion at all. How can a sealed gel battery have corroded terminals??
