I am trying to install 4.11 rear differential with protorque on my 2001 C5 conv. I am coming from 2.73. What do your think about the performance improvement in terms of 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile? And what about drivability on the street & highway & gas milage?
I have 3.73's on my A4 and they are perfect. I really think 4.10's will be too much for the street. If the car will mostly be used for drag racing thats a different story but for mainly street use they will be a bit much. :seeya
:iagree: Do 3.73s, you will still have to get better tires but with 410s you will have a real hard time hooking up. I went from 3.15s to 3.73s and lost about 2MPG in town and on the HWY. (more at first :D )

Re: 4.11 rear differential on A4 (TXSTICK)
I have 4:11's in an elCamino that I have with the same transmission as the C5. At 75 I'm pulling 2K on the tach with a lock-up convertor. Around town it's great if you have the tires to support the gears-otherwise traction will be the limiting factor. If you're doing 100+ regularly or for an extended period of time then it's a bit much.
I have 3.73 gears in my auto trans 2002 vert. and I love them. I think they are a great choice. That said I think you could also get to like the 3.91 gear. When I drive my DRs to the strip(270/40/17) they give me almost a 3.9 gear and I have not found any problems with this combo. I tavel 180 miles round trip and that setup is fine for me on the highway.
Huge improvement in 0-60 if you hook on the street. 1/4, plan on at a minimum drag radials and more likely ET Streets.
Gas mileage will be something you will want to stop looking at. I get 17 if I am lucky. If driving highway at 65 I get 20 but it is hard to stay at that speed. RPM will increase. At around 70 mph I am at about 2600 rpm. If you have loud exhaust it will be louder in the cabin because of the higher rpm.
As Chris pointed out above, it is for a mostly track used car so I deal with the negatives.

Redgar, you know what's happening... you are a speed demon...
That 4-10 really cranks for you...
But it is a matter of how much power you are using...and your mph through the traps. I have 3.73's, and seem to be running out of gear, my 1/4 mph is @ 130.5 mph... I am on the top of 3rd gear...
I'd like to ask a question similar to "love2dye4u" 's. I'm looking into a swap from 2.73 to 3.73 and wanted to know how the gas mileage was. Also, how many RPMs will I generate @70 mph compared to the 2.73? I don't dragrace much so I wasnt planning on a new torque convertor. By not installing a new t.c., will it be easier for me to launch on the street without burning my stock tires up? Currently with my 2.73s, I have a fair amount of spin without my traction on as it is.
Anyway, any info on driving characteristics of the 3.73s VS 2.73s would be great. Thanks everyone.
Had More Performance put some 3.73s in mine in October from 3.15 and it's much better. As far as launcing, taller gears don't make it easier. If you have alot of hp and have not beefed up the tranny, then don't use a tc yet. At 70 I run about 2500rpm
From 3.15 to 3.73 I only lost about 2MPG (with the stock TC) if you install a high stall TC you will lose more MPG in town when driving stop and go.
At 80MPH I think the rpm was at about 2550. :auto:

I finally had Westcoast Corvette install 4.11 on my A4 with protorque convertor. With overdirve it is very streetable & highway as well. My c5 is a rocket on the acceleration espeacially on highway I can pass by other cars like a rocket. Without overdrive it is too much.

What do you mean by overdrive? Do you mean regular 4th gear or something aftermarket?
