I want to upgrade my intake on my 2000 vert. but want it to be smog legal in Washington. Any advice on smog legal intakes. Is Halltech smog legal? Thanks. :seeya
Hi,
Here in CA the only smog legal intake mods are -replacement parts-. That pretty much cuts it down to K&N filters in a stock box. Your 2000 C5 will like the late ZO6 intake cover as it is a lot less restrictive that the early covers. Also, the tie-wrap mod is very effective and easy to reverse if you need to.
Good luck,
Steve

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about the legality of aftermarket air intake. If you've modified it to be so restrictive that the engine can only run rich, you've got problems, but on a stock engined car with cats, unless your smog test technician is having a really, really bad day, and decides to take it on one you with a visual test failure, you've nothing to worry about, IMHO. Halltech is a great choice.
If your state has a visual element to the smog test, and the examiner is feeling unkind, you may be flunked due to an obviously aftermarket intake. I believe someone posted that he had flunked in California when the examiner noticed the open elements of his Blackwing. An easy solution is to change back to the stock airbox when heading over to the test facility :blueangel:

NOT TRUE! The K&N FIPK intake system has been proven to add 16.9 HP and 11 lb-ft of torque. The best part? IT'S SMOG LEGAL in all 50 states!
