Default heads

what are the best heads to put on the C5 for the most horsepower gain? Can one gain a substanial amount with heads along excluding a new cam? I saw SLP is advertising one which is heads and cam for around $2,700 which is suppose to bring the C5 up to 485hp. However, it states it is for off road use only. Does this mean it won't pass the emissions tests? Someone help which ones are the best to purchase? Are there really a big difference in any two brands? Thanks in advance.

I use MTI heads & cam and they are very good. There are a lot of good head builders on this forum and you will get a large amount of help choosing the set up for you. :yesnod: :yesnod:

Depends on what are your goals. For all out NA power I would go with a Stage 3 Heads with something like 2.08/1.60 valves & crazy porting. But that is a little too extreme for me. I personally have Stage 2 2.08/1.60 valves moderate porting in mind. These will also be LS6 Heads. The answer to your second question would be no. A cam is required to maximize potential otherwise you are just wasting the extra air. Check out the forum vendors here for deals . Difference in brands can't be accurately measured unless they are put head to head with flowbench charts to back up claims. But anyways from what I've seen the performance gains are pretty much similar with the differences sometimes negligable given the price difference. I am personally going for Stage 2 LS6 Patriot Heads they are about $ 1900 ( No Core Charge ) pretty fair. :seeya

i am putting together the following package, 5.3 heads with 2.00 intakes, .027 head gaskets from cometic, .530 lift 220 dur, 119.5 lsa cam, kook long tubes, cats , x-pipe,vararam, billit tb, water injection. tuning. want a very driveable motor with excellent throttle response, car is 98 a4 driver that gets autox. the big numbers are good for 1/4 mile but not as fun on the street.
i also have purchased everything but the headers at auction or used and saved a whole lotta money!! project is sheduled to be started the beginning of jan. should be interesting to see what the results will be.

keep in mind what you want to do with the car as that will determine what mods you need to do!!! :auto: :chevy
