I switched to Redline fluids in the diff and MN6 (D4AFT) at 30K miles. I had no problems whatsoever with the stock fluids. Shifting was average.
After Redline, shifting seemed smoother right away.
But after 1 year/10K miles, shifting started to get a little rough. Then I developed a fluid leak. It turned out to be the rear seal of the trans. It's a $3 part, but $600 in labor to change it out (covered under GMPP, luckily for me).
Of course, I can't say the Redline caused the leak, nor can I say it caused the increased shifting effort. On repair, dealer refilled with stock fluid and I'm keeping it that way!
Also, I belive it's incorrect to say D4ATF is Dexron approved. I think Redline says it meets the specs, but it has never been certified by GM.
Amsoil,Redline, and Royal Purple all use superior base materials that Mobil 1. Mobil is just a huge company that can make GM a deal they can’t refuse.
There are tons of test results showing Mobil 1 coming in last in all categories compared to these.
You can’t fight the warranty folks but once it’s up I thing your crazy to stick with Mobil 1
Been using Redline in the tranny and diff. for 2 years now with no problems. I will keep using Redline since I haven't had a problem and it definately made shifting smoother.
