I had this come up the other day and my "check engine" light came on. I reset the code in the DIC and the light went out. Today it came back on.
Could someone out there please tell me in more detail what this code means?
Thank you!
An air pump is used to lower tail pipe emissions on start up. Possible carbon build up in exhaust manifold or something reducing the air flow that is necessary to affecting the H02S voltage, which triggered the code.
P1416 is the air injection system, on the passenger side. The air
injection check valve on the passenger side is rusted shut, causing the
code.
How it sees this is that it runs a diagnostic, where it runs the pump
while you are driving and it looks to see if the oxygen sensors go flatline
in response to the fresh air being pumped into the exhaust manifold.
Those are some decent descriptions, what you need to do is replace both of the AIR check valves.
The problem is on most C5's (not all) the Bank 2 check valve is behind the intake manifold and you will have to remove it (the manifold) to get the right bank pipe off to replace the check valve.
While you are in there, replace the oil sending unit and be sure to get a new intake gasket set.
I also replace the throttle body seal, it's easier to undo the 3 bolts that hold the throttle body on the intake than it is to disconnect the coolant hoses and take them off together. Just take out the 3 bolts and push the throttle body out of the way.
There are a few tricks to removing the intake and you will need the right wrench to undo the 13mm bolt on the back of the left head to get the AIR pipe out.
The check valve is worn out and will not open under the pressure discharge from the pump.
Very common, it just sucks to fix on C5.
