Default Did something stupid with my battery. NEED HELP ASAP

Did something stupid yesterday as I was putting away the Z06. I was in the process of disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery, but could not find the short 5/16 spanner I normally use for this. So instead I used a long adjustable spanner that was laying around. It was all going fine until the spanner touched the positive terminal as I was loosening the negative terminal (because it was so long). Of course, this caused the battery to arc and sparks flew everywhere. Then all the lights went out. :(

I am hoping like hell that some fuse blew and not any major component of the electrical system. Has this happened to anyone else before? Does anyone know which fuse to check? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check that the battery has voltage. You may have fried your battery. If the short was between the battery terminals the current went there instead of downstream. You COULD have caused a surge or a current reversal, but I doubt it. I think the battery has no more volts. Good luck.

I tend to agree. If the short was between the terminals, I don't think anything else in the car got it.

I did the same thing on my Nissan Quest one time when I was changing the battery. It turned out that a very large fuse blew and there was absolutely NO power until that fuse was replaced. The battery was fine.

If I were you, I'd look for a blown fuse. Good luck.

Well, I went to work on the car today and all is well. I reconnected the battery and it works. :)

I tried the same thing yesterday and it seemed stone dead. Perhaps I was so traumatized by the sparks and smoke from the battery that I forgot how to reconnect it.

Thanks for the help anyway guys.

Don't think that you damaged any electronics. Maybe just the battery.
